Product Description

Product Description

Strictly for Therapists is an honest and open book that explains the causes, effects and treatments for many of the problems that a therapist is asked to deal with from Abuse, Panic, Phobias to Weight Control and very much more. Very often therapy is like to solving a cryptic crossword. You have to look for clues from your clients and this book helps you by giving a lot of the letters for you to make working out those puzzles simpler. The task of a therapist is to expose the cause of each problem and then defuse the negative effects to build a positive future for the clients. They will trust you to help them. This book makes it easier for you to help them. Strictly for Therapists is an exposition of the author's experiences with a large number of problems presented by many clients over a substantial period of time. It is aimed at giving guidance and level-headed advice to new therapists, established therapists and their clients. About the author: John Smale has been a practising therapist for very many years. He is the author of "The Secret Language of Hypnotherapy", "Short Stories and Metaphors" and "Mind Changing Short Stories and Metaphors".

Extremely Good Read 30 Dec 2010
By steve
Format:Kindle Edition
I am currently studying to work in counselling and as I soon realised the counselling / helping role is extremely diverse and as you start out one realises that there is for better words more than one way to skin a rabbit. I stupidly signed up to a level 4 distance learning course in counselling and psychotherapy but once I received the course I knew that it simply came no way near close to what you should know or even what you should even to start to think about and study. So I set out on quest to read as much as I can to get a better understanding as well as do some practical courses and volunteer work. I have read about counselling, hypnotherapy, NLP, CBT, psychology, shamanism, memory models and much much more. After all said and done this book has been the best so far. I do lean towards NLP but now understand that often a diverse approach is needed. What has struck me the most is how this book explains just why things are the way they are and gives plain yet informative information as to why people have various problems. As I was reading this book i knew I had knowledge already acquired but this lit the light bulb above my head and has given me a new found confidence to move forward with some better and focused study.
The author in his writing is straight to the point and I do not write this as a criticism but have to say his approach can seem a little blunt but as an overview this approach works to getting the concept across to the reader. Anyone entering the field of mental health, counselling, therapy along these lines this is definite must read.
Only one downside which I do not feel is the book or authors problem is that on the kindle just a few sentences here and there end mid sentence and the following sentence starts off from the middle. Probably just a little kindle glitch but I would assume that most who will read this book to be of a competent reading standard and the missing words do not loose any meaning to what is being said. This being said it should not distract anyone from reading such a great book

How can a therapist who denies false memory creation ask for payment for past-life regression?
This book takes the lid off a lot of the bad practices called therapy and shows how to conduct professional treatments for a huge range of problems.

The author has written other books that help:
Moving Forward; Life Changing Short Stories and Metaphors for Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy & NLP
Mind Changing Short Stories & Metaphors: For Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy & NLP: For Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy and NLP (short stories and metaphors)

Excellent introduction & reference for Hypnotherapy 9 July 2009
By T. M. Collins - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
With a good strong knowledge of practical Hypnosis, I was drawn to this book, to understand better how Hypnosis is used to assist patients/cients in the field of Hypnotherapy, the use of Hypnosis to aid psychotherapy.

In his book, John Smale a practicing Hypnotherapist of some +15yrs, does what I believe is an excellent job in reflecting a practical down to earth understanding, of a subject and profession that is often lost, when steeped in the overly complex theories of Jung & Freud. John introduces some background to the wide subject to set the scene, offers valuable guidance to newcomers plus outlines some not so obvious do's and don't.

The fundamental premise of the 'Fight or Flight' response flows comfortably throughout the book and intuitively feels right in the relevant circumstances.

For me the ultimate value of the book is in the detailed analysis of each of the thirty four prime 'Problems', that clients typically look for help on.

I truly believe that both existing practitioners & enquiring minds alike, will benefit from reading this book.
