Unfortunately, Amazon UK have mixed up two set of reviews here......The negative comments made (on more recent posts) about poor sound quality and audible distortion relate to the 'cheapo' Hallmark CD edition (playing time: 30 minutes) of this album - the red cover 'Must Close Saturday' CD listed here (playing time: 75 minutes) has none of these problems, and much more care has been taken over presenting the tracks in the best possible sound quality.
Of course, the 1959 Decca album 'Strictly for Grown Ups' was recorded and issued in Mono sound, but apart from that, this CD presents a quality restoration of the source. The 'Must Close Saturday' CD listed on this page also adds 16 bonus tracks of other Paddy Roberts songs from the 1950s, and the sound quality on these is generally excellent. If you like Paddy Roberts songs, the choice is clear - you won't wan't to bin this CD edition - You get what you pay for !

I mentioned to a friend that I would like to receive this CD for Christmas and was delighted when it popped through my letterbox on Christmas Eve.....

All of the CD tracks sound good, but the five songs by Paddy Roberts from THE GOOD COMPANIONS (1957 film) have been exceptionally well remastered. I have the old vinyl EP so appreciate what has been achieved here.......

The whole collection displays the ability of Paddy Roberts to write any type of song lyric and in many cases music as well, from sentimental ballads (for Ruby Murray, David Whitfield, jolly numbers (for Diana Decker, Lita Roza), early rock 'n' roll (for Don Lang), and of course, the humourous songs for which he is most well known, such as 'The Ballad of Bethnal Green'. Anybody who enjoys the wide spectrum of 1950s songs will like this collection, I think !

Very funny, yet not rude in anyway by todays standards, just sheer fun to sit back ,relax and enjoy an innocent giggle with the very cleverly written words of Paddy Roberts. You will be sorry when it's over ,i'm now looking for more of his work.

Although the product was delivered quickly as promised - and received in good condition, the audio quality of the CD was extremely poor. It appears to have been copied from a very worn 33rpm LP. The turntable and cartridge used were both noticeably poor in quality. There is distortion on most audio peaks, deck rumble and on parts of the recording, that awful regular sound produced as the possibly distorted LP rotates - a sort of scrunch - scrunch- scrunch sound.
This is a very poor amateur recording and should only be offered for sale with the appropriate warning inforemation.

Sometimes rather arch, sometimes louche, occasionally risqué for the 1950s, this is a lovely reminder of the sort of songs we used to think were 'naughty' when we were very young. Now understanding the lyrics, it's hard to think what all the fuss was about. Mainly bought to remind myself of the lyrics to 'The Ballad of Bethnal Green', this three quid's worth brings back some happy memories of times long disappeared.

Paddy Roberts resembles Noel Coward in his sofisticated and witty songs. I find they stand repeated hearings

Bought this in memory of the vinyl LP I bought in the 60's.

Transferred it to my I pod and listen to it in the car. Quality is dire and nothing remotely like digital, however its harmless fun at its best.

The product arrived within a few days. No problems yet again.

Although Paddy Roberts has written large amounts of music for others tghis album is nothing like them. This is his preferred personal genre. It's very old type music, not quite Music Hall,, but clever well written comedy songs. Well worth every penny.
