I mentioned to a friend that I would like to receive this CD for Christmas and was delighted when it popped through my letterbox on Christmas Eve.....
All of the CD tracks sound good, but the five songs by Paddy Roberts from THE GOOD COMPANIONS (1957 film) have been exceptionally well remastered. I have the old vinyl EP so appreciate what has been achieved here.......
The whole collection displays the ability of Paddy Roberts to write any type of song lyric and in many cases music as well, from sentimental ballads (for Ruby Murray, David Whitfield, jolly numbers (for Diana Decker, Lita Roza), early rock 'n' roll (for Don Lang), and of course, the humourous songs for which he is most well known, such as 'The Ballad of Bethnal Green'. Anybody who enjoys the wide spectrum of 1950s songs will like this collection, I think !
