Product Description

From the Inside Flap

Chronic multitasking and ever–increasing demands on our time and energy have caused a neurochemically based dependence on sources of stress and stimulation to provide fuel for our chaotic lifestyles. While this may boost performance in the short term, studies have consistently shown that when stress hormones are elevated over time they create the worst form of internal wear and tear, decreasing productivity, wasting time, and even killing brain cells. As a result, modern society is tired and wired, suffering from physical exhaustion while mentally amped up and unable to get adequate rest.

Stressaholic explains the impact of chronic stress on the body, mind, and spirit, and shows how a simple shift in mindset can dramatically alter the body′s response to stress. The Stressaholic Recovery Process restores system–wide resilience toward stress in five simple steps, which include:

  • Rest to balance brain chemistry with strategic relaxation and recovery
  • Repair to calm and nourish cells with energy–enhancing nutrients
  • Rebuild to strengthen mental and physical fitness to optimize energy
  • Rethink to optimize your perspective to see stress as a challenge instead of a threat
  • Redesign to develop "BEATs" that provide structure for ongoing energy management

Stressaholic shows you how to win the war on stress without limiting your progress by creating an optimal performance pulse of stress and recovery for life. With easy–to–implement tips and real–world examples of individuals and organizations that have turned stress into sustainable drive, Stressaholic will guide you on your journey from exhaustion to enlightenment!

Practical Guide to Stress Management 11 Feb. 2014
By Diane - Published on
Format: Hardcover
New York Times bestselling author Dr. Heidi Hanna, PhD, brilliantly highlights stress as a fact of life in this her newest book. She emphasizes how symptoms of being a stress addict can present health risks, and cites research to back this up. She says that "stress may be more addictive than drugs", and quotes addiction expert Stanton Peele, who suggests that "any habit can become excessive, compulsive, or life endangering". Dr. Hanna describes the importance of changing negative "patterns of thought" to repair and recharge our energy. She embraces the need for a "cultural shift" in the workplace towards "healthy significantly decrease health care costs". Heidi recognizes energy management practices as a key to balance. She cites research based advice including cognitive training to strengthen the mind, cardiovascular training to strengthen the heart, and interval training to keep the body challenged. She suggests we create "our own optimal performance pulse" and commit to make "self-care a priority". I predict this writer's timely publication will be another popular best seller.

Important information on our brain that we should all have! 22 Jun. 2014

This is an extremely important book, explaining why our brain takes the easy way and follows our established habits. It explains why it is so difficult to get rid of bad habits but gives us the way to do it. Stress is a killer, we all know that but this is the first book I have read that gives me the information I need to control stress in my life instead of letting it control me. Written very well is a plus!
