Amylmetacresol, Vitamin C
Strepsils® Orange with Vitamin C 100mg Lozenges contains two antiseptic ingredients (2,4-Dichlorobenzyl alcohol & Amylmetacresol) for use in throat medications. These are used for the symptomatic relief of mouth and throat infections.
Also contains Vitamin C which may be beneficial during infection when Vitamin C levels are believed to fall.

Each lozenge contains: A combination of 2 antiseptics to fight the infections which can cause sore throats and mouth infections. 100mg Vitamin C to help boost levels of Vitamin C which is beneficial during an infection Remember young children can choke on lozenges. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients listed, do not use this product. This product is unsuitable if you are intolerant to carbohydrate. May cause allergic reactions. Consult your doctor pr pharmacist if you take too many lozenges, if symptoms persist, or if anything unusual happens. Do not use after the expiry date. KEEP ALL MEDICINES OUT OF THE REACH AND SIGHT OF CHILDREN. Do not store above 25ºC.

I've had a tickle in my throat for a few weeks now which produces a nasty cough. My Doctor says there is something going round, which is Doctor Speak for 'I don't know what it is, but if you start coughing anything up pop back in'.
I got some of these because it promises soothing effective relief for sore throats. I have found that it does tend to numb the area that tickles, so if I have had a bout of coughing and take one of these my cough stops for a good hour of so. The orange tastes very nice but they contain alcohol, which may explain the anaesthetic part.
About a fifth cheaper at the supermarket if you can be bothered to go out for them and they actually keep them in stock, not all do.

These are widely used in Europe, I don't understand why they are not in every pharmacy in US! They are safe and effective. I just hope the FDA does not get the wind of this and prevent it from being available here. The only "beef" I have is that shipping is so expensive!
