The Swiss ball, also known as the stability ball, is currently evolving as a leading-edge exercise modality, but the use of a ball in exercise actually dates back to the second century A.D. Read the first page

Format: Paperback
I was looking for a book to show me what more I could do with my Swiss ball than crunches and I think this book is great for that. There are 76 exercies in total, and each one is laid out on a double page, one page of which is a text based description of how to perform the exercise and which muscle groups it works, and the other page has demonstration pictures. The whole book is split in sections for different body parts. Some of the exercises do need assistance from another individual and some need additional equipment like hand weights or more than one ball. More movements are for the Swiss ball than the medicine ball, but there is a reasonable coverage of the possibilities of both.
I can't offer any comparisons with other similar books, but I would recommend this one as I like the exercises, I can feel them doing some good and it is an entertainment in itself trying not to fall off the swiss ball!

Format: Paperback
I ordered this book to supplement The Core Workout: A Definitive Guide to Swiss Ball Training for Athletes, Coaches and Fitness Professionals and fortunately the latter arrived first. Whereas "The Core Workout" provides the beginner with a proper introduction and progression of exercises as well as some useful 'exercise theory', "Strength Ball Training" provides a short introduction, full of jumbled medical and sports science factoids, hints, dos and don'ts, etc. followed by the exercises, leaving the reader unsure of what is really essential. So I'd definitely not recommend it as your first 'ball book'.

That said, it is not a bad book, just more of an exercise library to complement your programme. The exercise are well decribed and illustrated but since this is the main thing, a few things - such as an exact 'muscles being worked' section - would have been nice. Also, the accompanying DVD only features a few select exercises from the book - more of a gimmick than a true companion, then. The exercises are reasonably well described and illustrated. The book's format suits simpler exercises better as each exercise only gets to pictures.

Finally, a note on the term 'strength ball training': I mistook it to be 'Strength (i.e. weights) exercises on a swiss ball', the idea being that you could incorporate some ball technique into your weight training, using it instead of a bench etc. However, the authors simply refer to the exercise ball (aka swiss ball) as a 'strength ball', so if you want to incorporate weights, you're going to have to rely on a few 'progression tips' and your own imagination.

Ball training takes you through a number of excellent movements that will increase your strength in no time flat. Enjoyed the upper body exercises best- used as warm ups and cool downs in between sets of working chest and back exercises. Overall sound book to pick your favorites out for a fun workout. Also liked The Backsmart Fitness Plan- excellent swiss and medcine ball workouts and great abs training as well. Cheers

Format: Kindle Edition with Audio/Video Verified Purchase
The book itself is outstanding, however it is not precised that the audio/video enhanced parts will not work on kindle fire hd.
In fact those parts will only work on apple based devices with iOS since it is in fact an app for apple devices. One would ask himself why the price is the same for apple users and kindle users if the product is in fact different and somehow incomplete.
Other than that - Very good book with plenty of new exercises well explained and divided sensibly into appropriate sections. Great job !
Waiting for an app from Amazon completing this book.
1 star less for the missing app for Kindle Fire HD.
