Amazon Review

Search engine placement has become a key role and responsibility for those engaged in Web site marketing. Streetwise Maximize Web Site Traffic offers the lessons learned by the authors' own trials and tribulations with search engines, with the goal of helping readers maximise the visibility--and ultimately the traffic--of their Web sites.

Authors Robin Nobles and Susan O'Neil guide readers through several different proven techniques with this easy-to-understand, instantly applicable book. The differences between key words, titles, and description tags are spelled out quickly, revealing the importance of each. You find out how to use "doorway" pages to offer various entry points to your site without overusing them and violating search site policies. The book also includes a Search Engine Chart that summarises all of the key facts about the various search engines, such as their size and crawling frequency. There are also summaries for quicker reference and a lengthy Helpful Links section.

One of the book's most important features is the part called "Meet the Search Engine": 159 pages of detailed information about each of the major search engines and directories. Tips and specific strategies alike arm you with what you need to use the Internet's search sites to market your own site for free.

If you want a successful online business and need to increase traffic to your site, this book hits the mark. It is a great resource for entrepreneurs, consultants, and owners of small to medium-size businesses. --Stephen W. Plain

1.0 out of 5 stars Not as Good as I Expected.... 2 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I'm writing with great disappointment. Most of the contents are already available on the Web. A simple search in major directories would provide much more in-depth information. Also, the authors are writers, who have no experience with Web marketing. I wonder how they can claim to be experts.

I regret for wasting my money :(

3.0 out of 5 stars Old but good 26 Jan 2004
Format:Paperback
Bought this book because of the good reviews on amazon.com.
And altough it is outdated (nothing is written about google), I really like this book because it outlines the way you can achieve a #1 position is search engines.
With this book I got several #1 positions in google and that's
all I wanted. For me this book is a musthave, but perhaps they should update it with some more recent content and add google.

1.0 out of 5 stars This book is way to outdated to be of any help! 19 Oct 2005
By Mark A. Spicer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is copyrighted in 2000. In five years the internet has changed so much that this book is of little use. Many of the URLs listed in the book are outdated (the sites are no longer there!). Google is now the number one search engine, and what little information the book has on it is outdated. For example, keywords and titles have NO effect on your Google rating. This book should either be updated or discontinued so that buyers don't waste their money!

1.0 out of 5 stars Recipe to be spammer and unethical SE optimizer 29 Jan 2005
By AD - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The whole SEO strategy the authors teach is based on doorway pages and hidden links, which are considered UNETHICAL and SPAM by SEO community and Search Engines. Never ever do what they say. Otherwise you will damage your reputition and business.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to read yet informative 10 Mar 2003
By Mayda Sanchez - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The authors have taken a step by step approach to deliver a good amount of useful information and resource links. The book is easy to read (or scan as a reference). The book proceeds from a general overview to the minutia of search engines and how they work. That section is outdated being that it is now 2004.The book remains a useful guide on analyzing top-ranking pages. The content is written with the professional in mind, but is easy enough for the do-it-yourselfer with basic web page editing skills to understand. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for legitimate ways to increase their web site placement on the search engines. The book was written in 2000 and therefore does not focus on Google and is somewhat outdated. However, I applied the optimization techniques in the book and still gained a top ranking for those targeted keywords in Google, MSN and others.
