Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Break out your nunchaku and don your black belt: Ryu, Chun Li and Ken are back, and they've brought 16 friends and a ton of new special moves with them to vie for the coveted championship belt in Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike.

This latest version of the celebrated Street Fighter series is perhaps the most attractive yet, with highly detailed backgrounds and character animation that take full advantage of the Dreamcast's power.

Like many two-dimensional fighting games, there are two methods to playing Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike--learn to finesse the joystick and perform impressive special moves, or simply mash the buttons randomly. As such, those willing to devote the time to learning the game's myriad secret special moves will be able to earn Street Fighter black belts and enjoy the game to its fullest, while casual gamers who prefer the button mashing route may find more replayability in a less complicated game.

For those with ninja fingers, Capcom has also added a grading system to this new version that judges the player's performance after each match and comments on his or her skills.

The game's value doesn't end when you've mastered the intricate manoeuvres, either, thanks to the extreme level of customisation that can be made to the fighting, which virtually allows the player to reconstruct the game's rules. --Benjamin Reese

Manufacturer's Description

Straight out of the arcade, Capcom takes to the mean streets with the release of Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. This juggernaut fighter stars 19 brawlers from the Street Fighter III universe and introduces the new Leap Attack and a Grade Judge System which evaluates player performance at the end of each match. Huge characters and an innovative hit-frame system team up with the return of the Super Arts fighting styles and totally seamless animation in the newest chapter in the greatest arcade series of all time.

FIGHTING BLISS 21 Nov 2003
Street fighter III:3rd strike compared with its predesessors[and many]has improved character animation, visually impressive and far better compared with street fighter alpha 3.It introduces a new test of skill with parrying and super arts, and you've still got ryu,ken and chun-li, and akuma to use.The only downside is that many of the old faces have gone and the new ones...well....don't quite match up.Apart from that, its visually and musically brilliant, and treads over double impact. The only advantage sf alpha 3 has is the choice of all of the old characters, but is graphically poor compared to this.If you're a button-basher it won't suit you either, its for capcom fighting game purists with skills like me!!!

Ok, at first glance this sounds amazing- there have been a total of 22 streetfighters, and only two have tried 3-Dimensions. 3rd Strike doesn't do this though, it's simple, it's retro and it's 2D. But wait- before we all get angry at Capcom for their lack of inventivity in the Street Fighter series, just play any streetfighter. You get hooked. The sound of Ryu shouting "Hadoken" and Chun-Li's "Spinning Biiiiird Kick!" are satisfying to all. And this game is no exception. Graphically, it's the best so far. I am amazed at how much room characters take up on screen, and specials and super-finishers trigger massive flashing patterns which will give most people epileptic fits! But it boils down to something Capcom do very well- addictive gameplay. It depends. If you are a real gamer who likes rich depth and difficulty, then come get some. If you are a Street Fighter fan who hasn't got it- what are you waiting for? Only if you don't like fighting games should you avoid this. But lets hope the SF series starts moving forward a little further- 3D would be nice...

Shoorryuuuken!!!!!!! 30 July 2003
I have been a fan of the Street Fighter series since I recieved Street Fighter 2 as a X-mas present with a Sega MegaDrive (I was only 3). The anime style character design, the concept of someone being able to shoot a fireball from their hands, it absorbed me. Then as the series progressed it brought in new ideas such as super combos, "Shinku Hadoken" "Shoryu Reppa" I couldn't get enough of it.
Now the Dreamcast has Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, a die-hard fan's dream. Revamped animation, parrying, new characters and all new Super Arts (at least 3 per fighter). It kills off competition such as Virtua Fighter. So what if Virtua Fighter's 3D, it couldn't be worse if the disk gave off the scent of microwaved poo when it span around in your console.
Overall, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike is a great game that is very rare to find at the moment and if you do find it take it while you've got the chance.
