Coming upon this page, I must say that I expected only 5 star reviews for such an historic piece of cinema. Once the initial shock of the bad reviews had worn off, and I realised that they must have all merely been in jest, I felt it may be wise to add my own thoughts.
The Street Fighter series was once that had lofty expectations in all forms of media - The 2nd game had set a massive precedent, and had firmly established itself as the best fighting game in the world at the time. As a young lad I felt many things playing the game. Joy, frustration, happiness, even sadness because I felt bad when the game said that Ryu had no friends. He looked lonely, and his stage made me sad.
In 1994, the stars aligned, and born from this was the greatest film achievement ever seen. A film jam-packed with Action, tension, fantastic direction, fantastic acting, it's an all around 5 star classic. Raul Julia really steals the show as the 'psychotic' M Bison, delivering a Shakespearean twist on such an excellent character that can only be described as the single best example of acting that has ever been put to film. His speech about his nature and intentions in particular was phenomenal. As ever, Jean Claude Van Damme is brilliant, and plays the role of Guile very well.
Every role is impeccably filled by its actor, they look like they were born to be the character they play, apart from Sagat who is played by a manlet, when he's actually supposed to be very tall. Also, no matter how long Kylie Minogue pretends to be English in this film, adverts, other shows and such, she will never be English. Sorry Kylie, accept it and move on.
In conclusion, if you want the action thrillride of a lifetime that will emotionally exhaust you in the space of an hour and a half, you NEED this film in your life. I wish I could award it more than 5 stars.
