Since I knew nothing of this series/movie before sticking the disc inside my PS3 I could only hope that would be better than the awful 1994 and the super-awful 2009 movie (which very few people know about). Live action has never been kind to Street Fighter, but Assassin's Fist wisely strips the expansive cast of characters down to a handful (let's be honest, Blanka and Vega/M. Bison/whatever are never going to look believable outside of animation) and focuses on their lives and motivation.

Ryu and Ken train with their master Gokken in the lush Japanese forest and are forbidden to use Dark Hadou - a form of Ki which corrupts the soul. Gokken flashes back to his early life where his brother Goki submits to Dark Hadou and is banished from the dojo before retreating to the mountains and evolving into Akuma. Sounds thin, but the 156-minute run time allows the characters to really develop and breath at a more natural pace. Even without the Dark Hadou story this would be a fun film just watching Ryu and Ken train and interact. For a Street Fighter movie, for a video game movie, and even for ANY movie at all the depth of the characters and the connection to them is layered and meaningful. I was so surprised by how much they were able to pull off with such a small budget and cast. The locations and photography are beautiful, and it adds immeasurable production value. Assassin's Fist takes you to places that you don't normally see in movies and probably won't want to leave.

I will admit that the episodic nature of it does kill the momentum a little bit with the multiple fade-out/fade-ins, but it's a small gripe and honestly the only one I can think of.

A big fan of the game but couldn't bring myself to watch the van Damme movie despite being a massive fan of him. This however, is everything a streetfighter fan can hope for. I watched the series online and waited months for the Blu Ray to come out. I'm pleased to say I have it now and my anticipation has shifted to the forthcoming release of Streetfighter: World Warrior. I can't wait to see how they create some of the other characters we know and love.

Street Fighter has not had the success on TV and Film as it has Video games(like MK, DOA and Tekken.) The movie in question attempt's to best the previous movies, and that is just what it is.......an attempt. Said to be about the origin's of Ryu and Ken, moreso the origin's of Goku and Goki,
To be honest, I h\ad high hopes for this, but I still see the ongoing trend is just that.............ongoing.

Next to zero fighting, too slow and for how long it is for the ending to be shocking and not the good kind.. Had my pants down with this one

An excellent take on the video game, giving us the origin story of Ryu and Ken and easily one of the best video game adaptations.

I wish there was a 4 1/2 though as it my only criticism is that it does feel a little drawn out, however it should be noted that this was originally made as a web series of consisting of 12 episodes at 10-12 min each that have been bundled together so its to be expected.

It would have been cool if the editored version was included (which they have trimmed to 105 mins) as this would likely take away the very minor gripe I have with this "movie".

Recommended.

A friend of mine bought this for me for Christmas and I really enjoyed it.

The acting can be bad at times but overall the story, pacing, choreography, special effects, characterisation, etc, is spot on. IMO give these guys a big budget and allow them to make a fully loaded Street Fighter film. This is the best live-action Street Fighter ANYTHING to ever be released and I can't wait for further installments to the series.

Best actor is Gotetsu, what a legend!

I thoroughly enjoyed this street fighter movie. Is very much a prequel to the street fighter franchise. Focuses on mainly Ryu and Ken and how they started out training with their master, and also how Akuma came to be. At 2 1/2 hours long it was possibly a bit drawn out, but the special effects were amazing as were the martial arts. Definitely one of the best live action street fighter movies out there. Highly recommended for Street Fighter fans and fans of martial arts!!!!
