Product Description

Book Description

An engaging new translation of the Bible into the language of the city. Rob Lacey reworks the metaphors, situations, and speech patterns of the Bible to create a real impact on the modern, urban reader.

From the Back Cover

First off, nothing. No light, no time, no substance, no matter.
Second off, God starts it all off and WHAP! Stuff everywhere!
Genesis 1:1

It’s creative. It’s colourful. It’s the Bible as you’ve never read it. In this engaging new paraphrase, author and actor Rob Lacey renders the Bible in the language of the modern urban reader. Using MTV-style dialogue, Lacey lends fresh perspective to familiar stories and sayings. For new and seasoned readers alike, the street bible takes the message of the Scriptures into the 21st century to create the impact it had in the 1st century.

5.0 out of 5 stars Whoa!!! This is wicked!, 20 April 2003
Remember that dull, dry book written in the language of several centuries ago that told you about God??
Well, the street bible is a lively, readable, modern paraphrase of that old faithful tome that brings it alive again.
At Spring Harvest week one in Minehead, it sold out twice, and the bookstore there had an extra, special, opening one lunchtime just to sell their third delivery.
Stop reading this review and buy this book. It is the most exciting, enjoyable, ground-breaking version of the bible for ages.
Use this to get the overview of what's going on, then your favourite "traditional" bible for the in-depth study.
It would probably appeal especially to the teen market, owing to its use of street language (but I think it's great - and I'm 37! - young at heart ;-) )

5.0 out of 5 stars God's message made readable, 15 Nov 2003
The Bible is the most important book you could ever read, but I guess that some translations don't make it the most readable. This is not exactly a translation, but it is God's message nonetheless and it is certainly not boring and it will make you view Christianity in a new way. I bought it as a birthday present for my 14 year old brother, and he loves it too. I was worried that he wouldn't, as he doesn't like books, and he has never like reding the Bible even though he is a Christian, but he says that reading this helps him understand stuff, and he likes it a lot.
Also, I would recommend the Message. That's good too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Boring? I don't think so!!, 29 April 2003
By A Customer
If you ever tried to read your way through the bible and fell asleep this is for you. This is NOT a translation - it's an interpretation in modern "street" language. It's an absolute must for the teenager, youth leader and in fact anyone hoping to get from one end of the other without the aid of matchsticks! Probably the best thing that anyone has done with the bible since it was first written down!
