I bought this book after seeing a picture of a 'luuurve monster' made by someone on a craft website. (That was her name for him!)
The characters in this book are so cute and have such great personalities.
Each sock buddy varies in difficulty, but each featured design comes with really easy to follow instructions. I would imagine most of them are achievable by someone with even basic sewing skills.
Not all the featured characters have instructions though (the reason I knocked a star off), so you need to have a fair amount of talent to be able to create them just from the photos.
That said, there are loads of different characters and ideas in here and had every one of them had instructions included, the book would be like an encyclopaedia and cost 3 times the price!
So I suppose it's a good job.
One thing that is guaranteed is that each little 'socky' is an individual.
(I made the teddy bear and he looks totally different to the one in the book. Cute...but totally different!)

I'd buy this if you want to teach your children to sew....but buy new socks. They're worth it!

Not All It Seems 18 Nov 2010
Format:Paperback
Visually a great book, but has some significant flaws. Most of the designs need a pair of socks to make them. There are some you can do with odd stray socks, the little pig is a good example, but the title is misleading.

The first 73 pages are pure indulgence by the author & his photographer, they add absolutely nothing to your ability to make the animals. To add insult to injury most of the creatures in these pages are not given making instructions in the craft part of the book. The rabbits & stripy critter on the front cover are not included in the instructions!

The instructions do leave out some critical explanations: how do you hide the end of your thread once you've embroidered the stuffed head of an animal? I'm still working that out for the Cheshire Cat. Also where do you position his legs? It's frustrating!

I'd say buy it if you have a moderate amount of sewing experience, total beginners will get annoyed by the lack of complete clear instructions. Be aware that many of the creatures in the first part of the book have no instructions( why not show how to do the duck for example?) I'm happy with the price I paid ,but would have felt disappointed if I'd have paid full price.

this book is fantastic for that rainy day when your stuck indoors & having an artistic block!
I began to make my first sock-creation he looked soooo cute I became hooked & made a further five. Now I have orders as my friends all want one!
The book itself is superb! The author brings the little characters to life with fun quality photos. The step by step instructions are easy to follow with clear pitcures & explanations.
Because of this book, i'm now happy when one of my socks goes missing! hehe!
