Ever since I was a little boy I knew I wanted to be Strawberry Switchblade when I grew up. That magic combinatinon of post-punk polka-dot sensibility and nu-generation electropop synth had me captivated from the first time I heard "since yesterday" and read their rather prototypically abstruse interview in a contemporary Smash Hits. Thanx to amazon.co.uk I have finally had the chance to listen to an album I have been deprived of all these years and it has certainly plugged a major stylistic gap in my quest to retrospectively annoint myself with all things 80s. Each track is a little slice of wonderfully harmonised electrosynth heaven, from upbeat to downbeat, and the Hi-NRG cover of Dolly Parton's "Jolene" is nothing short of musical genius. Seriously recommended for anyone interested in the deepest roots of 80s counterculture! Buy it now and make Rose & Jill, god bless 'em wherever they are today, as well as yourself, very happy customers indeed. xxx

It was 1984 and I was 12 years of age! I too wanted to be strawberry switchblade. I crimped my hair, backcombed it and wore polka dot ribbons in my hair. Since yesterday was the only song that used to get played on my stereo for about two months none stop. I always wanted to buy the album, but never had the funds. Times were hard. I found it later on when I was about 18 at record fair!!! Wonderful, peice of pop magic!! My favourite was "Who knows what love is?"..... reminds me of barmy hot nights of 1985.... Rose McDowall later released a solo record which I managed to get hold of!! Used to get played alot on our local radio station. Hope the girls are both doing well.

This album is NOT Camp!
It is a blend of technological gothic, electro 6o's esque, dance pop, melancholy darkness, its up, its down, camp is entirely the wrong description of this album.
Its just too good for that, through the upbeats, theres a tinge of sadness, buy it its a nice cd.

get ya polka goin on.
This album is so camp, we love it. 23 years old this year and still sounding good, Strawberry Switchblade were well overlooked in their time which is a damb shame!! Read more
