I’ve been waiting to see this film for a very long time. I was never expecting a masterpiece. When it was released back in 1970/71 it never strayed to my neck of the woods its was reviewed on TV, can’t remember who? The film, it’s a counter culture film not an underground one, like many of this period and type it as flaws. A couple of films that Strawberry Statement should be seen against Antonioni’s ‘Zabriskie Point’ and ‘Getting Straight’ with Elliot Gould. Strawberry Statement fits right in the middle of the three films dealing with student unrest, particularly after the Kent State University killings but is more damming of the state than the other two films. The acting is what you would expect but the photography in some of the scenes equals Zabriskie Point. I enjoyed this slice of counter culture its content is much stronger than Zabriskie Point and not has silly as Getting Straight. A film worthy of being recognised more, the Time Out Film Guide doesn’t even mention it.

This package comes in the form of 2 dvds, both of which play on my UK systems.

The remastered original theatrical version is not good due to bad exposure effects. ie parts of the movie are under / over exposed. This does detract from the movie significantly.

However, the second DVD which is the extended international version is very good.

Great Movie, great music, great period piece.

This quality of this archive edition is very impressive. Plus it's region free and will thus work fine on region 2 players !
The movie itself is fantastic if only because of the music ! Much appreciate !

Been looking for this on DVD for many years, never found it on VHS either. A brilliant film which provides an accurate commentary on how things were at the time in America. Had used the film version as a discussion starter for youth groups in the late 70s early 80s and it certainly worked. Great acting, perfect period music and one of the most unusual endings to a film rthat I have ever seen. If you've never seen it get it, if you remember it, get it, you won't regret it.

A contemporary view of radical student politics of the late 60's. Gives an insight into the incoherence of their idealogical position but shows how for many it was about fun and sex. The establishment plays an expectant role by sending in the police and national guard to beat the s*** out of the student protesters
