About the Author

Petr Horacek is a young Czech illustrator and painter making his publishing debut. He works in a mixture of mediums including crayon, watercolour and ink and loves to explore the bookmaking process. His style, which is bold and naive with a very European feel, is full of startling colour. Petr trained at the Academy of Fine Art in Prague and then worked for some time as a graphic designer in the Czech State Advertising Agency before settling permanently in the UK in 1995. He lives in Worcester with his wife, Claire, and their two daughters Teraza and Cecilia.

All of the fruit in this board book are almost good enough to eat. We have used this book extensively in our playgroup to introduce the youngsters to colors and fruits with a lot of excitement and enthusiasm all around. The bright colors also helps to inspire fun. My daughter just loves trying to copy the pictures on her own. No boredom and lots of imagination!

In this beautiful little board book, Petr Horacek uses fruit to introduce colours. Every detail of the book has been lovingly thought through. The narrative is very simple, but has a purpose. The words are accompanied by great illustrations, and the pages are cut in an inventive way that both enhances the drawings and brings them together at the end in an unexpected twist. The quality of the board is good and has withstood the attentions of my one-year-old for over six months now. All in all, a superb buy, and an excellent companion to What Is Black and White? (Look Inside) for teaching colours.

This board book for young children is a delight. Rich colours with great depth provide a welcome relief from some one dimensional children's illustrations that get onto the shelves. Horacek continues in the great tradition of Czech illustration. Highly recommended

I was bought this book as a gift for my newborn daughter and thought it so wonderful I have bought this and "Black and White" for my 10m old niece. My daughter is only just beginning to see things (she's 7 weeks old) but her eyes light up at the colours and she smiles when we look at it together. Handy size for holding in one hand with a baby in the other and good quality card - perfect for little hands.

Strawberries Are Red 17 Sept. 2001

This is a great book for a toddler learning her colors. Our 2 year old loves it, turning the pages quickly and pointing at everything! She eats everything that's illustrated in the book, so she has fun naming the fruits. A great book, and durable, because it's a board book.

Rainbow of Colors 14 May 2005
By LilDot'sMom - Published on Amazon.com

My 16 month old just loves this book. And the colors are basic ones corresponding with all the fruits that she eats. The ending makes for a delicious treat! The board book is always a hit for the 2 and under age group!
Not as effective at teaching as I had hoped... 26 Jan. 2015

I wanted a book that taught colors very clearly and the dialogue was aimed at very young children. I bought this one based on high reviews and parent suggestions.... Though this book is aimed at very young children, it was not designed or stylized adequately enough to be a great teaching tool. If i had seen it in person, I would not have purchased it. First of all, each page is shorter width-wise than the previous page by 0.5-1.0 inches, in order to create a rainbow the of colors on the left side which pages are turned.... however this means the child sees more than the one color they are learning and the color they are learning gets a smaller and smaller focus as the book progresses. It would have been far better if the pages were full size for every color and on the last page the rainbow of colors was printed and not a cut out to see previous pages. Secondly, the artwork is too stylized, especially with the apples and blueberries, for very little ones to really get what the fruit is and match it to its real counterpart. It would have been far better if the fruit was more realistic Overall the book is not terrible, but its also not effective at teaching either. I am not going to care if my son destroys this book.

This book is fun to use while doing our garden daycare theme and working with fruit as well as learning colors. The book builds up to a really cute fruit salad surprise at the end of the book.
