Format:Audio CD
This compilation hardly does justice to the wealth of music Carter have produced, but nevertheless provides a good summary for those not familiar with the band. The social commentry that runs throughout Carter's music is everpresent in Straw Donkey, from their humble beginnings with tracks like 'Sheltered Life', through to their lastest efforts with the "Young Offender's Mum" and "Born on the 5th of November". It would be nice to have heard some more material from "30 Something", but then, Straw Donkey wasn't compiled for me! If you like Carter, buy Straw Donkey; if you love Carter, buy the albums first, then buy Straw Donkey.

that means a compilation of all their singles. No it's not all their best work but if it was it would be called 'Best of'. A half decent introduction to Carter but it's no 30 something or 101 Damnations.

If you are a Carter fan you will already have the albums that these singles come from but if not this is a great place to start. This has Carter's best known tracks, such as "Sheriff Fatman" and "The Only Living Boy in New Cross", which a lot of people will remember from the early 90s. It also has the single "Born of the 5th of November" which has a different sound but it excellent nonetheless. I would highly recommend this collection to the casual Carter fan but if you want the full Carter experience then you should look at buying the individual albums.
