5.0 out of 5 stars Stravinsky chamber music for piano and violin, 2 Feb 2010
By

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Stravinsky: Duo Concertante; Pastorale (Audio CD)
I bought this CD after hearing at the radio the Suite italienne for violin and piano. I knew (and love) the orchestral Stravinsky but I didn't know how beautiful is this chamber version! Plus I found that also the other works are totally worth digging. These are totally satisfying performances of interesting pieces form the Stravinsky genius, with a nicely detailed recorded sound.

Addendum: it is now available for the same price the brand new double CD Stravinsky Complete Music for Violin And Piano from Hyperion Records (Feb 2010). So you might want to check also the newer and complete release before making your decision.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Set of Unknown Pieces, 30 Dec 2010
By Auguste O. Meyrat - Published on Amazon.com
Although Stravinsky is better known for his percussive modern works, he composed some very fine pieces for the violin and piano. What makes this CD worth the purchase is the collection of music otherwise unknown although very listenable. The Suit Italienne, the first two movements of the Divertimento, and the rousing Danse Russe concluding the album. Mordkovitch plays these pieces faithfully, avoiding unnecessary frills and tempo changes, but she too often lacks a bit of warmth and dynamic, giving a monotonous feel to the collection. However, the freshness and innate beauty of the music overcomes some of the underwhelming qualities of the soloist. For those who enjoy exquisite violin sonatas, like ones by Franck, Debussy, or Prokofiev, rest assure that Stravinsky will fit into your playlist seamlessly.
