A fun look at the subject of strategy. If you've studied the usual strategy text books this will come as welcome light relief. It's full of short, entertaining snippets but all with a serious and thought-provoking message behind them. I particularly liked the fact that it includes extracts which poke fun at the whole 'strategy' industry - good reminders that it's possible to spend so much time crafting strategies that you run out of time to actually DO anything.

Mintzberg, Ahlstrand and Lampel's Strategy Safari: The Complete Guide Through the Wilds of Strategic Management is the best book on strategy I've ever read. This follow-up book really isn't. Essentially, it's a collection of quite random thoughts on strategy based on the underlying premises of Strategy Safari, and laid out in the 'in your face' style which (it seems to me) is often employed when the book's actual content is somewhat lacking.

If you're looking for a collection of slightly zappy conversation starters for strategy seminars, this might be the book you're looking for. If you're looking for the real follow-up to Strategy Safari, then you should be looking at Mintzberg's Tracking Strategies: Toward a General Theory, which is the academic culmination of his life's work.
