Charles Ho was born 1961 in a family, where classical Chinese cuisine was passed from one generation to another. His culinary skills were nurtured by his father, a renowned master chef in Chinese cuisine. To further refine his skills, Charles attended the Malaysian Chinese Cuisine chef training course, as well as the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu culinary workshops. Besides, he also graduated with a diploma in hotel management from the American Hotel & Motel Association (formerly known as AHMA, now AHLA). Academically, Charles holds a Bachelor Degree (B.A. Hons) in International Business Administration from the University of Northumbria U.K and also possesses a Diploma in Management from the University of Malaya. Throughout his career, Charles has been featured numerous times in food and cooking magazines as the master chef in Chinese cuisine and also acknowledged as "Asia Food Guru". As an authoritative & professional chef, and also an expert on Asian Cuisine, Charles has successfully demonstrated his special techniques and recipes which delighted his audience, including the community of the Western World. By extensively travelling and accumulating the most authentic recipes of all Asian countries, that were prized as family secret recipes, Charles Ho wrote numerous articles and reports on Asian cuisine. He also contributed with his recipes and features on regional cooking ''Home Cooking'' magazine, local publications, newspapers and is currently working on two other cookbooks. Charles Ho has retired, and now, with more hours to spare, indulges in his favorite pastime - writing (holding a pen rather than a pan).

This book is about as helpful as a drunken conversation with a marketing guy at the pub. Given it's title, you would expect 7 strategies to market your restaurant but there isn't a single coherent strategy in the book. It is filled with "claims" and absolutely no evidence to substantiate them. The rest is just random bits of vague, unhelpful information. My favourite was "Using twitter is as easy as opening a new account, creating profile and beginning to gather followers." Save yourself the time, frustration and disappointment.

The author even wastes a whole chapter to say that bad reviews need to be responded to immediately. Let see how long it takes to respond to this one.

You will end up thinking like I did ‘why didn’t I think of that?’ so many times. It really has given me some great ideas, inspiration, for inexpensive ways to have an instant impact on business such as ‘mobile marketing’. As we know most people these days have a mobile phone and will read a message ‘within a 5 minute time period of it being received’. This access, direct to potential customers is invaluable and the book shows ways of setting this up at a low cost.

I found the section on restaurant websites indeed very interesting, the author states, as most people go on a restaurant website to look at a full menu and if there isn’t one or your menu is out of date, this could potentially lose you custom. This is remarkably true, as I know from personally doing this myself!

This book in my opinion is invaluable for anyone thinking of starting their own restaurant in today’s climate. Even if you already own a restaurant business and you are looking for ways to improve your popularity, reputation and revenue, then I can highly recommend this easy to read marketing guide.

Author Charles Ho has done an excellent job of sketching out the basics of today's marketing techniques. This e-book is an ideal initial read for a restaurant proprietor who is just beginning to look at current and up-to-the-minute marketing approaches. Someone who is either opening their very first establishment with little background in marketing, or someone who is looking to revamp their restaurant's existing rapport in the foodie marketplace would probably find this to be a solid first purchase.

Ho presents an adequate overview: not too technical, and no jargon. Presenting the many techniques in use by restaurateurs today in a fairly unbiased light, Ho addresses the basics (solid web presence, effective usage of social media, text message marketing, etc.) and also ventures into some higher level marketing (use of QR codes and mobile applications on newer technologies like iPads). He discusses how these techniques generate new income while keeping the existing customers returning. Ho never talks down to the reader, however, this is not a report containing step by step instructions on how to construct a webpage, either, for instance; so, "newbies" who are looking for basic "ABC"'s as a starting point should do well while those who want more technical help should probably pass and look elsewhere for the information they're seeking.

I awarded 4 stars as this is geared mostly towards small business owners, and I don't agree with some of the advice given, regarding text messaging campaigns in particular.

Charles Ho informs us of the ramifications, both positive and negative, of the decisions to implement various marketing choices. Most importantly he backs all of it up with concrete facts and statistics that should leave the reader with ample confidence that they're well-equipped to tackle whatever they're trying to accomplish by perusing this book.
