Product Description

Product Description

The prospect of improving your management focus, sharpening your processes, updating your technology and saving money sounds too good to be true, but this guide aims to help steer managers through the pitfalls of outsourcing. It covers everything from the strategic drivers to the practicalities of implementation and ongoing management so that you can capitalize on the opportunities.

From the Author

Researching the book led me to meet a lot of smart, knowledgeable and experienced people who had faced outsourcing challenges from all three aspects - those who have outsourced, those who have achieved outsourcing and those who have had outsourcing thrust upon them (with apologies to Shakespeare)

As an enthusiastic bookworm myself, I set out to write this book with three aims:

1: To deliver genuinely practical information that would help readers in their jobs;
2: To avoid as much business, technical and marketing jargon as possible;
3: To write in a style that the reader can genuinely enjoy.

Did it work? I think so, but I guess you will have to be the judge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic primer for those new to outsourcing, 2 Oct 2003
This review is from: Strategic Outsourcing: Exploiting the Skills of Third Parties (Management Consultancies Association) (Paperback)
Ian Benn has written a great primer for managers new to outsourcing. He covers a wide range of subjects from the history of outsourcing and employee rights through to the future of outsourcing with all the contractual steps in-between. He uses the style of short chapters, covering many subjects with a number of examples and managerial comment. It works well and the short chapters let the reader skip from one section to the next very easily. A good introduction to outsourcing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strategic Outsourcing - Enjoyable?!, 19 Jan 2007

This review is from: Strategic Outsourcing: Exploiting the Skills of Third Parties (Management Consultancies Association) (Paperback)
I needed instant familiarity - not just a briefing, mind, I'm talking a detailed induction on a subject I knew very little about - and this book provided it.

I started out with not just a little fear of this subject - what I did know was this was an area easy to foul up on, potentially very expensive, high maintenance, demotivating to staff, right in the middle of the radar of regulation, blah blah.

However, stand easy. Ian Benn has written a complete guide which is balanced, fair and extremely helpful. It takes away any mystery of this particular area. It is easy to read, logical and well structured. Exactly what I needed.

D'you know - I did enjoy this book. Maybe I should get out more - but actually, it hits the spot and well, if there is anything missing then you probably shouldn't need to read it in the first place.
