Product Description

Review

A well-balanced illustration of the concepts that surround the strategic management of intellectual capital and knowledge, with interesting and relevant papers arranged into logical sections chapters throughout the book. (Managing Information )

An excellent overview of the range of theoretical perspectives and research undertaken to date ... One of the most useful aspects of the book is that the knowledge building blocks (or the history of intellectual capital) are described in a logical order, which help the reader understand and interpret current thinking surrounding intellectual capital. (Managing Information )

Product Description

This book adopts a knowledge-based perspective that sees the firm as a store of knowledge resources and capabilities. The firm's knowledge base includes the expertise and experience of individuals, the routine and processes that define the distinctive way of doing things inside the organization, as well as the knowledge of customer needs and supplier strengths. To the extent that the knowledge and capabilities are unique and difficult to imitate, they confer sustainable competitive advantage on the firm. Unlike traditional products, knowledge-based products and services can enjoy increasing returns, so the firm developing an early advantage has a better chance of growing market share through network externalities and customer familiarity effects.

This is a collection of papers on intellectual capital and how organisations should react at a strategic level to maximising their knowledge base. There are some real gems in here, including Nonaka's look at knowledge management, and a chapter on the developments in Nonaka's work since his original work.

The book is academic, and over 700 pages long, so is suitable for the person wanting a more comprehnsive look at the subject.

An Essential Compendium for the Serious Strategist 26 May 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Not a faddish management consultant recipe book. This reference tome contains an important selection of the latest thinking on organizational management. The authors' various perspectives on managing from a knowledge perspective lead the reader to do some serious thinking. I find myself returning to it again and again for further insights.
