4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for a strategic management textbook 10 Jun 2011
By Andrew Hamada - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Since I bought this as the required text for a strategic management class, it's not like I evaluated options and made an informed purchase decision, but:

* The book does a significantly better job of introducing, explaining, and diagramming analytical concepts than the other textbooks I've seen used for this course.

* It includes a lot of cases, as it should. About 2/3 of the cases are great; the other 1/3 are either too complex for an undergraduate curriculum (conglomerate-level corporate strategy) or don't include enough conflict (The IKEA case, for example, could be titled IKEA: How To Do Everything Really Well).

* It loses a star for the atrocious editing. Numerous typos, partially edited sentences, than/then your/you're errors, etc. make the book seem amateurish despite its quality content.

Great theoretic textbook. Was required reading for my MBA class. Contains some very interesting and applicable methods that are currently being employed in the business world. Very thorough coverage of the subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great price, great condition 25 Jan 2014

I paid about $8 for this "used book". It stated that there were highlight marks or writing on pages. I looked through it as soon as I received it, which was probably not even a week after ordering, and it is in excellent condition. I'm glad I didn't purchase it at our bookstore for over $100!!

Strategic Management by Charles Hill is very informative, very helpful in learning how to have a competitive advantage over your business rivals. I read this book almost every day, and I learned every single day. Thanks Charles.
2.0 out of 5 stars Poorly Written 24 Nov 2013
By Margaret Wanner - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
First of all, there are two different editions of the book that have the same exact covers and titles and authors, but are completely different. I accidentally bought the wrong one and didn't figure it out until I couldn't find what the instructor was talking about on page 220. When I did obtain the correct version with many case studies in the back appendixes, there were lots of typos and grammatical errors that made some of the examples confusing. The only reason I'm giving the book 2 starts instead of 1 is that the examples were pretty interesting.
