5.0 out of 5 stars A fitting end 23 Oct 2007
This is a final installment of the Strangers in Paradise series and, although it is not the strongest of the six pocket books, it is a fitting conclusion.

The series as a whole is one of my favourites. The first few books in particular are extremely strong and I was shocked that a comic book could illicit such strong emotions from me. There was certainly an element of repetition in the Katchoo/Francine/David drama (which Moore himself acknowledged) and I get the impression that he might have changed his mind about how he was going to end the series half way, but in the end, you get such a real sense of how the characers have grown and changed with time that those things really don't matter.

It's sad to see Katchoo, Francine, David and the rest go, but I feel Terry Moore was right to end the series where he did. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Long, Strange Road to Paradise... 8 Sep 2012
By D'mo
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Comics are emotive to me; I can't deny it. But I have never sat through the last 100+ pages of a comic sobbing before.

I've adored every volume of this story, every step along the path Katchoo and Francine have taken, and these characters became so vital and alive to me by the time everything reached the final furlong it was like being hit by a truck... so much happened in this runaway juggernaut of a tale, pulling me along to this conclusion of what I can only describe as a romantic epic. This is love the way love happens; messy, complicated, filled with mis-steps and poorly-chosen words and actions, anger, failure, forgiveness, loss, but it is all the stronger and more real, more vital for it. True love is no straight up-down-up road. And nor should it be, because without the rough, we can't appreciate the smooth, and without pain we can never know relief.

Strangers in Paradise represents the way romantic fiction should be written; the action and adventure is a bonus, sure, but the love you get from this story is the most powerful thing to take from it all. So by the time we rounded that last bend and headed into the final straight, I was just driven over and sat for a full hour doing nothing but bawl, sniffle, laugh out loud, bawl more, wipe my nose and finally close the covers on the last page and bawl some more. And all the while I was smiling. This really was one hell of an experience for me. I've never been so emotionally invested or moved by a book before. Maybe it helps I'm a bit of a romantic at heart, but this is something I think everyone should feel at least once from the written word.

So yes, it was a rollercoaster that had to end eventually, but what an ending. And what a ride.

5.0 out of 5 stars Satisfying end to a really good graphic novel! 16 May 2008
By Kenneth Simon - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I've been reading Strangers in Paradise in pocket book form. (These are compilations of material that originally appeared in single issue comic book format.) This book is the last in the series, as the story comes to a close.

At its heart, Strangers in Paradise is a love story. Katchoo and Francine meet in high school. They're perfect for each other. They should be together. But instead, they wind up apart for years, and when they find each other again, they're plunged into drama and intrigue: secret identities, organized crime and killers, marriages, divorces and, er, folksingers. You name it, it's all here, rolled into one entertaining, convoluted ride.

Let me get my criticisms of the series as a whole out of the way. It lagged at times. There were a whole lot of interludes with song lyrics and poems that I didn't feel contributed much, and that frankly I didn't think were very good. Also, some of this series was reorganized when it was reprinted in these Pocket Books, and the result is a long, odd tangent in one of the previous books that is too disconnected from the characters and story we've grown invested in. So... not all 6 Pocket Books would have gotten 5 stars from me. This one, though does.

Book 6 fulfills all the promise built up through the series. This final volume brings the multifaceted story to a close most effectively, and affectingly. I was left at the end with that bittersweet feeling you get at the end of a really good book or film: you know these people are fictional characters, but you will miss them, now that their story is over. I was so glad I took the time to read Strangers in Paradise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Completion Of The Series 29 Dec 2007
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
The final volume of Terry Moore's landmark series is a perfect example of how graphic novels should be published. Tightly-written and beautifully illustrated by Moore and publshed by his own studio, this compact edition contains the last 14 issues of the comic, more text-heavy and less whimsical than when the book started a decade and a half ago, reprinted in a smaller format that brings out fine detail in the artwork.
4.0 out of 5 stars I cheated 14 Feb 2014
By Niugui Cilantron - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
While reading volume 4, I thought to myself "you know, this is getting repetitive and unbelievable." Then I hit page 63, where Francine's daughter's publisher (reviewing SiP) says "the book is repetitive and unbelievable." So I cheated, skipped volume 5 entirely, and got this one, since I wanted to see how it all ends. I don't think I missed anything important.

Will Katchoo and Francine's love ever get requited? Well, if I told you, that would be a spoiler, wouldn't it? How's this for a truncated spoiler - you'll never guess who Casey ends up with.

This review should indicate to you that if you want to read this series, you'll have to start from the beginning. (Actually, I cheated there as well and started with volume 2, and it still made sense.)

Great series that is hard to put down once you start reading them. Loved the story line. Terry Moore is great and I also read his Echo series.
