4.0 out of 5 stars Great book for 1st/2nd graders 27 May 2013

Have a son who finished first and we're heading into the summer months--I was hoping these new Scholastic branches books would help encourage him to keep reading through the summer. High interest story--girls and boys might like it--really hard to find a lot of early chapter books that boys will like. This has that sci-fi edge to it but isn't scary. I only wish more of these Branches books would be out this summer!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great potential! 31 May 2013
By C. Estrella - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Everything in this book is weird and wacky.~~my son's thoughts.

My daughter's thoughts: The book itself was very interesting and funny. The story was good, and I can't wait for book two. I loved how Matt Loveridge drew the characters, and how David Lubar created them to be strange. Strange is good! I think younger kids will really enjoy this book, and hopefully the entire series.

Like my brother said, everything in this book is weird and wacky. Weird and wacky, but in a good way.

My thoughts: I think this series has the potential to be a fun one. "Book One's" are sometimes hard because the author has to get a lot out there for the reader to understand where the story is going. I think the antics will be interesting to follow and there may even be a few life lessons thrown in too. A promising first book in a new fantasy series for both boys and girls to enjoy.

Scholastic Books sent me the above book for review purposes. It will allow me to keep the book. I have no other connection to and have received no other compensation from Scholastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic for early independent reading 3 Nov 2013
By JHA - Published on Amazon.com
My first grader loves these books!! I've tried many other short chapter books to get him to read independently (Magic Treehouse etc), and these are the first ones to really hook him in. Hopefully there will be more written in the future once he gets tired of rereading the first four.

I've posted a review on each of the books in this series. I can not express enough how grateful I am that we have found books that can hold my sons attention.
3.0 out of 5 stars okay, I guess 8 April 2014

I thought it would be more interesting than it was. I did like the pictures and large words and plenty of spacing.
