received this cd with great anticipation, two days before official release, after a long, long wait since ordering back in march.oh my gosh, this is the album steve harley was born to write and perform.every track is wonderful,no 'fillers' here,an emotional roller coaster ride of one mans observations of all that is wrong in the u.k.and the world today.a protest album of sorts, albeit a well disguised protest album. steve opens up his heart,on love, life, war, peace, politics, family values, the present, the bleak future,if things dont change. rod stewart once said steve was one of britains greatest ever song writers/composers.rod was wrong,he is up there in the top five at least, the lyrics on this album are a joy to behold,a very moving stroll through modern day life from the eyes of a very well educated man, with an obvious shake of the head at the frustration of what he sees before him.mr.harley and his wonderful collection of superb trusted musicians have produced a cd of epic proportions, much better in my opinion than his last two studio albums,'poetic justice' and 'the quality of mercy'. this deserves to catapult steve back to the higher echelons of the album charts, but in this day and age of manufactured pop pap,it probably wont, and that is a sad loss to true music lovers everywhere. i for one cannot wait to see these tracks performed live on the upcoming tour of the u.k. and europe. please buy this album music lovers ,you will not be disappointed,i guarantee you that.if you agree with me then also visit steves website, details on the cd cover, and buy a ticket to see this band perform live in the u.k.

Harley Hits a New High,
By
This review is from: Stranger Comes To Town (Audio CD)
This is an astonishing work. One that Steve Harley fans probably always suspected he was capable of producing. And, boy, he's more than surpassed their expectations. Honestly? If this album doesn't end up in your top ten list of favourite albums of all time, I'll eat my own socks.Of course, Harley could not have produced this work all on his own; there's the band to consider. Well, from the deceptively straightforward opening track "Faith and Virtue" to the soaring closing tracks of "Before They Crash the Universe" and the truly spectacular "2,000 Years From Now" the musicians work hard to keep everything tighter than a rusted wing nut. Not a duff track here; not one. On this album you'll find the subtle and the catchy, the gentle and the harsh - with a few surprises in store, including the plaintive "no hope" of No Bleeding Hearts that will circle in your mind for hours, and the plaintive cry of "Oh No!" that closes this remarkable album. It's a work that is far more profound and multi-layered - and mysterious - than anything Harley has produced before. It WILL give you goose-bumps, guaranteed. A truly outstanding album - as somebody else indicated here - for grown-ups. Drew McAdam

Songwriting doesn't get any better,

This review is from: Stranger Comes To Town (Audio CD)
I've been waiting for this album to land on my doorstep and today it finally did, but not before I'd grown so impatient that I also downloaded it from Amazon the minute it was available. This is a stunning piece of work, with such beautifully crafted lyrics that tear at the heart strings one minute and leave you soaring the next. It's one of those albums that you don't get right away and each listening reveals a little more layer by layer, until finally the truth of the lyrics are exposed in all their beauty and sincerity. As others have said it's not an immediate 'grab you', like 'Human Menagerie' or 'Psychomodo' but a real slow burner like Harley's amazing 'Timeless Flight' album. Even the most cold heart cannot fail to be touched by the likes of 'This Old Man' or 'No Bleeding Hearts'. I will be listening to this album for months to come.... love it!
