At the time of writing, there is only one other review for this film and it is a negative one. If there's one thing I hate, it's reviewers who think there is only one valid viewpoint so I'm not going to express scorn for someone who didn't find Strange Wilderness funny. People are different and taste is personal. These are good things.
However, I have watched the film three times now and I laugh more with each viewing. My wife and I have wildly differing tastes in comedy but she was also in fits. The inane commentaries to Zahn's failing wildlife show, his wonderfully offensive attempts to speak Mexican, the surreal wafflings of Jonah Hill are all magnificent. This is not one of those tightly plotted Hollywood comedies which make you titter occasionally and warm your heart with clicheed happy endings. It's just mad and properly, laugh-until-you-cry hilarious. If the makers think something is funny, they run with it and, fortunately for me, it chimes with my sense of humour like no other American film I can remember. Unlike the other reviewer, I wasn't expecting much at all from a Sandler produced film (I quite like his films but that's as far as I'd go) but this blows the likes of 'Zohan', (not to mention 'Borat', 'Semi Pro' or any other recent, enjoyable 'zany' efforts) out of the water.
If Strange Wilderness needs a champion, I'll put my hand up.
