Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Idiot Pilot are Washington duo Daniel Anderson and Michael Harris (vocalist). They have thus far been compared to the likes of Radiohead, Deftones, Blood Brothers and The Mars Volta, largely thanks to their ability to stir twitchy electronica with hard-hitting guitars and an impressive studio know-how. The lead single from this debut album, "A Day In The Life Of A Poolshark", is a fine example of their hybrid sound--a blend of post-hardcore aggressive screaming and adventurous musical experiments, delivered in an accessible pop way. It sounds in part like the band have tried to make a more commercial version of Radiohead’s Kid A, which is all well and good in theory but without the requisite experience it ends up sounding too shallow. There are some well-executed songs here for sure, but a general paucity of interesting ideas and the feeling of restrictiveness that comes with wanting their music to appeal commercially, is all too prevalent.--Paul Sullivan

Where to begin..... I can't actually explain the magnitude of this album in words. It is absolutely incredible. Two 18 year old boys essentially have put together a masterpiece deriving from hugely diverse influences. Pick them out for yourself: Radiohead, screamo or even DJ Shadow. On paper this may sound like a recipee for disaster, but in actuallity the duo have created a multi layered album which is lyrically and musically beyond their years.

From ambient dance track "Les Lumieres" to the heavy lush electro melt of "A Day in the life of a Pool Shark" - Idiot Pilot have in essence invented a completely unique sound. There is no other act like them.

For myself personally I can say I haven't got this excited about a band since I discovered Nine Inch Nails in the early 90's. I have seen the guys live twice, and on stage they live up to all your expectations and then some. Yes I am gushy as hell, but please understand, this album is perfect!

A superb debut. 1 Nov 2005
Format:Audio CD
I originally saw the video of To Buy A Gun on MTV2 a few weeks ago. Intrigued by the stage setup and song dynamics I decided to download it from iTunes. After a few listens I was hooked.

I have always found it hard to settle on a particular genre of music. Personally my tastes vary from Kraftwerk, Portishead, Helmet, Deftones, Aphex Twin, Depeche Mode, Tears For Fears (yes really!) and many more. More often than not listening to music in the car I find myself changing CD's to suit my mood.

Now, I have found an album that for me, is the most exciting music I have heard for about 15 years. Yes, the album may require a few listens before you fully appreciate it, but like all great albums every time you listen, you find a different favourite track. From the commercial appeal of The Life Of A Pool Shark through to the sonic perfection of Lucid and the soon to be classic chant of "Fire in the hole" from Militance Prom.

Here we have 2 18 year old guys from Bellingham in the US who have absolutely no right to have made such an amazing debut. If you are in any doubt try a few tracks and you will find yourself hooked. Yes there is screaming, but it is perfectly contrasted by Michael Harris's crooning vocal style.

In Daniel Anderson (Programming, live guitar and backing vocals) we have found an individual talent to rival Richard James and Ralf Hutter, in Michael Harris you have a vocal talent and born to be star. Together this, lets not forget, young band push the envelope and finally breach a new style of music that is seemingly impossible in theory, and totally needed in a stagnant mainstream market.

Like them or loathe them, at least give them their dues for making a groundbreaking record.

The best and most exciting thing I have heard in years. Still accessible through the forum on their website www.idiotpilot.com - talk to them now while you still can before they join the accolade of untouchable legends.

This is a fantastic debut album from two 18 year olds who are set to be really big, at least in the indie music scene. They are rather like a darker The Postal Service. The thing that impresses me most is the way they weave the singing into the song like an instrument, you can hear what he's saying, and recognise that he's speaking English, but it's almost impossible to fully understand what he is saying, so it just sounds like part of the music, rather than singing with background music. Kind of like Sigur Ros, only in English. Yes, there is a lot of screaming, but it's always very much in the background, with the exception perhaps of in To Buy a Gun, and again, blends in nicely and doesn't stand out too much.
Almost every track on this album is a stand-out song, the whole album is highly recommended.
