I've seen Jimmie Vaughan solo a couple of times live and wasn't very impressed- his guitar playing was nothing special and he ended up bringing Lou Ann Barton out to do most of the singing. However, I was quite impressed by this his first solo record from 1994, released four years after his brother Stevie's death. Although Nile Rodgers seems a strange choice of producer he does a great job, mixing traditional Texas blues with more souly elements, there's great backing - including wonderful Hammond organ and back-up singers. The standout track is probably the Neville Brothers' Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute "Six strings down" (although not a patch on the version on the Stevie Ray tribute CD) done here as an acoustic blues. I really liked the souly tracks "(Everybody's Got) Sweet Soul Vibe" and "Love The World" and also the title track which is a haunting jazzy instrumental. All in all this was a very promising solo debut that for me Jimmie never really followed up on.

Bought this for one track (six strings down) - the rest of the cd was a pleasant surprise. I was aware his work with the Fabulous Thunderbirds , but didn`t realise he`d made this album. A mixture of R&R jazz &blues shows his versatility in this field. Yes I`m please to have this one in my collection.

Standard Jimmy Vaughan; quite listenable but whatever the opposite of groundbreaking is, this album is in that category. His guitar playing compares to his late brother's like Accrington Stanley to Manchester Utd.

Uniquely remastered!

All three CDs are a must have for any blues parishioner of Reverend Vaughan's musical spiritual testimony!
