5.0 out of 5 stars Massive!!!, 13 April 2007
After a lackluster last few years you might be forgiven for thinking the post punk 80s revival was tailoring off to being a spent force - Until that is, you hear Strange Education. Just as Nirvana, it appeared had the momentum ways to take the Pixies to a new level you think you've heard the best this genre can offer until you hear this delicious hook driven masterpiece.

Taking standard post punk influences such as Talking heads, Wire, and mixing them with Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure, Jeff Buckley The Cinematics take the risky path of boldly go where their contemporaries only dream.

With such a mishmash of influences the production was wisely handed to experienced Steven Hague (New Order, Depeche Mode, Blur)who adds his trade mark lush overall feel bringing the album together.

The lyrical depth and emotional sensitivity of strange education is absolutely stunning at some points with whole picture painting a view of growing up and of tumultuous relations experienced. From dizzy heights of the uplifting "Chase to the murky depths of "Asleep at the wheel" this is one album I can't recommend enough to people. If there is any justice these guys will be massive.

Can't wait for the next Cinematic experience!

4.0 out of 5 stars time of too many comparisons!, 6 Oct 2007
Most of the bands in the 2000's just brought to all of us who had lived the efersvecense of cult bands of the eighties their essence in sounds. Thanks to the sendings from cultural sections of the British Embassy I received beforehand in Perú, so many records from U.K. and when I heard to this band, I told myself: Where are my The Chameleons UK records? And just because they are one of my favorite bands ever!!! The Cinematics is one of those bands for nu generations that did not heard the essence of the groups of the eighties.Pale Fountains, must also be heard for the nu generations.Just few references that must be revisited.
