4.0 out of 5 stars Too many toys for your TV?, 2 Aug 2005
By Techie Glenn (Leicestershire, England) - See all my reviews
This is a seriously handy piece of kit. In standard use it is a 3 in, 1 out, switched SCART selector box, but it also has a handy trick up its sleeve.

There are three sockets that attach to devices other than your TV (TV output goes from a fourth SCART socket). Rather than just settling with 3 inputs and 1 output, there are switches to allow you to use the first input socket as another output. This effectively means that any devices connected to sockets B and C of the input sockets can also output to socket A, allowing you to record from one device to another without disconnecting from the TV. Very useful. The choices presented by the switching allow for maximum flexability allowing you to play from one device to another (say VCR to VCR for recording) whilst using the third device on your TV (your playstation maybe).

The box also rather conveniently has a pair of AV phono outputs built in (one set for your TV and one set for an auxiliary device) so it can also act as an adapter from SCART.

All in all this is a very useful device and good for the price. It only loses points on lack of mounting points and also I found that if I were to put the box in any position that meant the weight of the cables were not supported (i.e. on top of my TV) then they often slightly pulled away from the box causing a partial disconnection. Mostly this was just annoying but could cause problems and this was what eventually led to the demise of my last box of this make (the sockets became damaged by the weight of the cables pulling on them). This said it did last me a few years which is fine in my books.

As these things go this model is particularly good in terms of its functionality and because the inputs are switched it means there are no issues with two live devices competing against each other. All in all it's a decent buy that will be a flexible and extremely useful addition to your home cinema setup.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great gadget, 31 Jan 2006
By A Customer
Agree with above reviews. This is a very good bit of kit - simplicity itself.

I use it to get freeview box, dvd and video all feeding into a TV with only 2 scart inputs. Great that you can also use it to transfer videos to dvd.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great little problem-solver, 11 Jun 2006
If you have a scart problem, this gadget is probably capable of solving it.

Of course there are other pieces of equipment about that allow you to connect multiple items (e.g. DVD, Video, Sky) to one scart input (e.g. your TV), but most of them will only allow for one of the three input devices to be turned on at a time, otherwise conflicts evolve.

With this product, however, that particular issue is not a problem. You can have all 3 input devices turned on and there will be no conflicts, as the A-B-C switch effectively blocks the signal of the two inputs which aren't selected on the box, regardless of whether those pieces of equipment are turned on or off. Thus you can seemlessly jump from one input to another without needing to turn devices on and off and without loss in picture quality.

However, you are not limited to selecting input A only, input B only, or input C only. Combinations are possible - A&B, B&C, A&C, or A&B&C, so the product can also function like any other scart adapter, in which you jump between inputs by turning one device of and the next off. The flexibility is yours.

Finally, you can change one of the inputs to become an output - ideal for recordings in which you want to preview the results 'live'.

I would thoroughly recommend this nifty little piece of kit. It gives you numerous solutions to various scart problems, whilst retaining the best possible picutre quality. And for all that, it's priced very reasonably indeed. Great product, great value.
