4.0 out of 5 stars Very good., 18 May 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Strand Master Remote 5 in 1 Universal Remote Control (Electronics)
First the bad news. This product is wrongly described. It is NOT a learning remote. You can NOT get it to copy key presses from another remote. Now the good news. It's the best multi remote I've seen for a long time. very easy to set up and a very wide range of codes. The first one I've found that will do Sky+, TiVo, Analog Satellite and a brand new LCD TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed, 10 Sep 2005
This review is from: Strand Master Remote 5 in 1 Universal Remote Control (Electronics)
Being a clumsy oaf, dropping remotes onto hardwood floors is a common occurence for me. I managed to drop the TV remote for my Salora tv last week. Being a bizarre German manufacturer I almost gave up hope of finding a replacement remote with the right codes on.
The remote was delivered at 11:15 this morning. It's now 11:24 and it's all up and running. Manually entered about 8 3 digit codes before finding the right one, took 3 minutes, all sorted. Super piece of kit,

1.0 out of 5 stars Only a "Basic" universal remote really, 13 Jun 2006
This review is from: Strand Master Remote 5 in 1 Universal Remote Control (Electronics)
I purchased this device with the aim of controlling my TiVo, new Panasonic plasma TV, Toshiba DVD player and my ntl cable box. The Strand was the wrong choice for me.

To begin, the remote is relatively simple to set up - get some batteries and enter the relevant codes and you're mostly away. Switching between devices was simple enough - press the obvious buttons on the top edge. The remote handled the basics quite well so volume changes and channel switching was quite good. However that ends the good things for me and the Strand remote....the Strand web site is really only a sales point - don't expect too much help from there. The instruction manual is simple enough but doesn't really help explain a great deal about resetting the remote which I felt might have been useful since on occasions the remote seemed to "get confused". The remote control only use a single small red LED to show what if anything is happening.

The remote was far less able in dealing with the more sophisticated functions for my DVD player TiVo and tv. The buttons on the remote did not match what you might expect them to for various functions and there was no way to figure out what each one did other than trial and error. By sophisticated functions I mean open and close the tray on the DVD player, the scoring buttons and direct to TV on the TiVo and switching between the input sources on the tv. The shift button could have been a very useful feature but when activated far too often it duplicated features and functions in completely different places and buttons. Overall I can't recommend this device for anything other than the most basic universal volume control and channel changing.
