5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome. At last a book that REALLY helps 15 Mar 2013
Format:Paperback
At Last! Here is a book, packed with not only the techniques to influence but also the research behind them and an ethical approach to applying them. Haider's enthusiastic and engaging style had me nodding in agreement to what I knew, smiling to things I never understood before and knitting my brow to some remarkable new approaches. A must read for anyone wanting to influence at a higher level.

5.0 out of 5 stars science made simple 9 Feb 2013
Format:Paperback
This is a book for people who want pointers and ideas that are based on research and trials, but who don't have the time to get a PhD in Behavioural Economics. Loads of interesting and very readable examples. Plenty of juicy research - not the usual pop psychology based on somebody's vague ideas of "what works for most people". Very down to earth tips for how to apply it, so you don't just end up thinking "I should do something" and feeling guilty. This is a book I'll read once, and come away buzzing with ideas for how to get more Yeses. Then I'll read it again, to pick up on all the the great ideas that got pushed away by other great ideas the first time.

I'm trying to think of anyone who couldn't benefit from this book. Nobody comes to mind.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ask and ye shall receive... sometimes. 20 Jun 2013
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This is an attempt demystify some aspects of behavioral psychology and place them in the context of making requests for what it is we truly want - be that a promotion, funding for a project or even a first date!

There are many attempts throughout the book to make the theories relevant and interesting for the average reader and this works pretty well on the whole; however, there are also times when the author is a little too casual with his prose and it ends up sounding more like the transcript of a presentation than a well written book.

It is also a bit odd when he presents some of the theories as secret knowledge with a mysterious power that must only be wielded by those with true hearts etc etc (Now you know what to do, I can't tell you what to do with this power - you need to decide if you will use it for good or evil...) It makes some effective psychological principles sound more like a superhero movie.

Basically a lot of the book boils down to being tenacious (ask, ask and ask again) and offering a reason for someone else to say yes (you agree to x because it means that you get y in return). It's never less than readable and is easy to dip in and out of but don't expect your life to be radically changed as a result.... Unless you want to say "yes" to sending me all of your money of course!! Anyone...?

3.0 out of 5 stars Yes perhaps in certain situations 20 Jun 2013
By Rendition VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Someone once suggested that if you want to see whether a sales technique works, first try it on some unfazed modern teenagers. The response I got was: "what are you trying to sell me?"

So much for that... However, this book does contain enough material to become a good office influencer... Whether this will be enough to close your next sale (internally or externally) I have serious doubts!
