Where his 2007 debut, A Tale of Two Cities, saw him make waves with a slew of catchy ska-pop, this second album sees him join forces with none other than rap megastar Kanye West, who acts as mentor for Hudson and steers him in a whole new direction. In contrast to A Tale Of Two Cities, Straight No Chaser is a super-sized world of slick R&B beats, glossy arrangements and big, catchy hooks. To top it off, Hudson’s voice now comes drenched in Auto Tune. If that last sounds like a step too far, worry not--Hudson’s quintessential Englishness manages to shine through West’s soulfully bombastic ensemble via a Sting-like voice, a slew of English slang and his tales of life as a 30-something living in the UK. Mr Hudson has a versatile and distinctive sound in his voice, who got carried away with the autotune (not necessary here.
Overall not a bad collection of tracks, much more synthetic and commercialised sound than his 2007 album "a tale of two cities" and fortunately without a really good song that stands out.
Although you are unlikely to find anything truly original here, Hudson writes good songs and his style still shines through none the less.

Format:Audio CD
A somewhat over produced CD that has some good tunes/songs but, why all the swearing? Its not big & it certainly isn't very clever, Mr. Hudson is obviously spending too much time with that tool Mr. West.......
If you liked A Tale of Two Cities you might also like this CD, but if you are buying the CD as a gift you really need to consider the swearing and whether it will be a suitable gift.

Format:Audio CD
Since their 2007 debut Mr Hudson have renamed themselves and enlisted the help of Kanye West. His high production qualities are spread all over this record. The first two singles `Supernova' and `White Lies' are placed consecutively at the start of the record. This can only be described as poor track organisation as it makes the whole thing feel overly commercial from the start. So how's the music then? The singles are catchy and glossy with good choruses. The title track is a nice bit of pop/R&B, though the auto-tuned vocals could be claimed to be a little over the top. The biggest highlight comes from `There Will be Tears' which is a nice ballad and the high production auto-tune tricks sound fresh and original. The album ultimately suffers a bit from being over produced at times and is lacking in a really original sound. It's pleasant pop music but nothing more.
