Format:Kindle Edition
Straddling the Line by Jaci Burton This is a review for Straddling The Line which is the eighth book in the Play by Play series. This very popular series is centred around the sporting achievements of the Riley family but this particular book centres around characters who gave previously been kept on the sidelines! Prepare to be engulfed in a world that will both surprise and delight you!
Trevor Shay is quite literally a sporting legend! He's one of that rare breed of sporting superstar who plays both Baseball and American Football professionally. He's loved by many but still remembers where it all began . Asked by an old friend to help her daughter Haven who seems to be at a crossroads he agrees to let her interview him but it's going to be a long process.
Haven isn't quite sure anymore if what she's doing as a journalist is exactly what she really wants to do. She's devastated by her fathers death but out if the blue the one guy who always seemed out of reach offers her a plumb assignment. Trevor has always shunned in depth interviews but getting reacquainted with Haven he starts to allow someone to see the man beneath the uniform. What started out as a favour turns into something much more serious as Haven and Trevor spend more time together. Trevor has always kept his distance but with Haven around he's finding it much harder to keep his secret. Trevor has reasons for not letting anyone really close but Haven isn't a journalist for nothing and if there's a mystery to solve she's prepared to dig deep! Boundaries are about to be breached and these two damaged people might just find a solution together .
This is a very very sexy read. Be prepared to want to grab your man or battery operated friend as this author has written a seriously hot book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Haven and Trevor not to be for me..... 7 July 2014
By Forever Reading - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Let me start by saying that I am a huge Jaci Burton fan, but this book fell flat for me.

Haven had a crush on Trevor when they were in college while she tutored him. Her Dad and Mom were dorm parents to pretty much all of Jaci's main men it seems and they all loved, respected and had great relationships with them even after they graduated. When her Dad died the year before Haven took it very hard and was having trouble moving on. She was working as a sports reporter but kind of wavering if that is what she really wanted. Havens Mom called Trevor and asked if he could help her in some way. Trevor plays both Football and baseball professionally so he works it with Havens network to do an exclusive on him. He is hoping this will get her back on track of following her dreams by keeping her busy and focused. She comes to stay with him while she puts the piece together.

Ok, so this was my problem....when they first meet up again there is zero spark. The crush was one sided in college, although from her reaction to this supposedly hot athlete you would never know! He has known her all these years, was at her fathers funeral the year before.....but nothing was ever mentioned that there was an attraction on his side before. It was like they were asleep when they met again, kind of woke up and stayed tired through the rest of the book. I don't know I just did not click with these two. Haven seemed laid back to the point she was almost lathargic...Trevor who was supposed or be confident and self assured came off confused and a little full of himself. When they did finally get together, it just seemed kind of calculated and convenient no passion at all.

If you did not know Trevor before you sure did now....there was so much of her interviewing him and others in the story. I understand that was her job in the story, but I found myself skimming over a lot of it.

So they both are trying to keep it casual for there own reason....both rediculas! Haven pulls her head out a little to late for me and while I sympathize with what Trevor is going through he is way too smart with way to many recourses to make his issues keep everyone at arms length. It was not until that last couple of chapter that they finally seemed to show some real emotion with each other and then oh guess what they love each other.

This book was not horrible, but I am sad to say it is my least favorite by far of all her books.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Good One... 6 July 2014
By TheBunny - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
It was a good read and the characters were interesting. My only issue was that the secret of the main character in this book seemed to have the same secret that is encountered in about 50% of Sports Romances and it started to make me feel as if I was re-reading a book hadn't read in a while and not a totally new novel. This may not be totally the author's fault as I am not able to recall if the secret has been used before by the author...but it did ruin it for me, to a degree.

2.0 out of 5 stars One to skip in the series 6 July 2014
By avid reader - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
While I enjoyed the other books in the series, and was looking forward to this story, this story was boring. There was very little connection or chemistry between the main characters and them getting together (and having sex) seemed like an afterthought. Wish there had been much more passion and a better story.

I have liked all the other books in this series and was happy to have the new one but this was a pretty big dud for me. I never felt a connection with Haven, She seemed childish to me and far to wishy washy. Trevor was ok but his big bad secret......a little anticlimactic for my taste. When I find myself skimming on a $7.99 book there's a problem. The price was to high for this round.

5.0 out of 5 stars Always an awesome read!!! 9 July 2014

While every story in the Play-by-Play series has a smokin' HOT hero; Trevor Shay will capture your heart and never let go.
A multi talented sportsman, Trevor keeps a secret close to his chest and refuses to allow himself to form a long term relationship, because that may mean revealing what he fears the most.
Haven has known Trevor since college, but was never THAT girl in his life, even though he filled most of her wildest dreams.
While Haven is still reeling from the death of her dad, Trevor decides to be her professional distraction and hopefully help Haven out of her funk.
But neither is expecting the fireworks that ignite when they come together for the very first time, or the ongoing inferno that rages between them.
Jaci Burton has wowed her fans yet again and this is definitely one of my favourite stories of this series. I’m also very happy to know there are at least four more books to come!!
