My 4 year old daughter loves these and so do I! Who would have guessed that Julian Clary was such a talented narrator? His voiceover for the Queen in the story is simply perfect. I don't buy the DVDs simply because I can't stand Jane Horrocks exaggerated northern screeching and it has to be said that even my daughter prefers the audio books to the DVDs . I think that the audio books, where Julian does all over the voiceover are much better than the DVDs. Each story is around 15 minutes long and each story has a little moral (or may be we should say life lesson) to it but never descends into being preachy, mawkish or judgemental. The stories are fun and funny. Tony Ross has obviously observed the behaviour of young children. Julian keeps the story moving along and the attention and imagination engaged. Unlike a lot of audio stories I am quite happy to have these on in the car when I am a 'captive audience'! The cover is not a brittle crystal case like you get with most CDs it is more like the flexible plastic cover that you get on a DVD which makes them perfect for being transported around with the kids at home or in the car. Well worth the money!
