Return To Flight: Return To Flight follows intensely human stories of triumph and failure as experienced by those who have undertaken to make things right. The two-year journey from the Columbia accident to the launch of the space shuttle Discovery in the summer of 2005 unfolds through the extraordinary day-to-day struggles of NASA scientists, engineers and astronauts from whom failure is not an option.

Inside the Space Shuttle: It takes the work of about 30,000 people, from start to finish, to get the Shuttle off the ground. From the ground crew that readies the runway for launch, to the workers that install the 30,000 one-of-a-kind silica tiles that serve as a heat shield, to the astronauts that fly the Shuttle, we ll discover what it takes to make one of the world s most amazing machines fly.

Countdown to Comeback: This special chronicles the efforts of NASA scientists and engineers as they grapple with the Columbia disaster and try to get the space program flying again.

Last flight of the space shuttle: Documentary following the preparations for the final launch in NASA s Space Shuttle program. From 1981 to 2011 the Shuttle program was used to send astronauts to space on shuttles which could then re-enter the Earth s atmosphere and land. Featuring interviews with engineers and astronauts involved in the program and behind the scenes footage, this documentary takes a look at the 18 months leading up to the final launch of a NASA space shuttle.

Alas I was disappointed, probably because I expected a broader overview of the Shuttle from the beginning, including some detail on the recovery from the loss of the Challenger (perhaps it was remiss of me to have judged the buy on the title so not really blaming anyone else). Anyway three of these four DVD's were pretty interesting, providing detail of the shuttle interior and its systems along with a review of the intense efforts to overcome the loss of foam insulation from the external tank.

As an aside, perhaps the most unexpected bonus to me at least, was evidence of why NASA has lost some of its can-do sparkle and merited pioneering spirit, traits that fed through into the dedicated pursuit of engineering excellence that would get the job done. It being unfortunately all too obvious that some of those who have been promoted within its ranks in recent times owe their position to the political correct judgement that now routinely determines such decisions. The legacy of this hopeless approach are both instrumental in the decay of NASA and the USA as a whole. The world is poorer for what we are losing.

I appreciated the DVDs content, even if there are no extra and image quality is under expectations. There are no subtitles too.

Obviously nothing too contemporary, with the retirement of the Shuttle all sorts of new reviews of the whole programme must be on the horizon. But these DVD's cover their subject matter well, with good insights and images, and worth it for the proce to any space buff.
