Product Description

Review

'This is a beautifully illustrated and magical tale. A wonderfully enchanting book, a pleasure for children to read and the children listening really did sit open mouthed. The perfect book for a winter's day.' -- Hilary with Isaac (5) and others, Education Otherwise, December 2005 'Poppy's visit to the Snow Queen is told in a comforting manner likely to appeal to the younger listener; the very quaintness and period feel of the pictures add charm and interest. Von Olfers' illustrative style is decorative, with snowdrop panels bordering each page and patterned scenarios of icicles and frost flowers that will captivate viewers of all ages.' -- Gillian Lathey, School Librarian, Winter 2005 'Another delightful seasonal book for young children.' -- Kindling, Autumn 2005 'This magical fairy tale has beautiful plate-style illustrations. A timeless gift.' -- Family Interest magazine, November 2005

Product Description

Poppy is gazing out of the window at the snow when suddenly she sees that the snowflakes are really Snow Children, dancing and whirling in the garden. Soon, they whisk her away to the Snow Queen's wintry kingdom. From the author of "The Story of the Root Children", this is another classic children's story with beautiful illustrations in the art-nouveau style.

Format:Hardcover
This book grips my three year old son. It concisely takes the child on a journey into the fantastical with the thrills and the ever lurking danger that you'll never want to return yet reassures the child that they can always come safely home. It is an archetypal fairy story that Jung would love but probably not quite as much as a preschooler!

Beautiful book 19 Jan 2011
Format:Hardcover
Another beautiful book by Sibylle Von Olfers. These books, along with Elsa Beskow's creations, should be on every child's bookshelf. I would give them 6 stars if it were possible.

a pleasing, "read it again!" book! 6 Jan 2009
By totaleclipse - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I bought this book and a few others by Sibylle Von Olfers as Christmas presents for my nieces (ages 2 and 4). The four year old loves this book. The stunning illustrations and story captivated her completely and she insisted that I read it to her about six times on Christmas day. A very lovely story indeed!

Love it 19 Jun 2008

My 5 and 3 yr old girls really love the book. My 3 yr old especially. Something about the babies and the striking red coat really draw her into the story.
