Product Description

Review

'A rare thing, a pornographic book well written and without a trace of obscenity' --Graham Greene

'A highly literary and imaginative work, the brilliance of whose style leaves one in no doubt whatever of the author's genius ... a profoundly disturbing book, as well as a black tour-de-force' --Spectator

'Here all kinds of terrors await us, but like a baby taking its mother's milk all pains are assuaged. Touched by the magic of love, everything is transformed. Story of O is a deeply moral homily' --J.G. Ballard

'Cool, cruel, formalistic fantasy about a woman subjected - at the prce of the great love of her life - to the gamut of male sado-masochistic urges' --Birmingham Post

Book Description

Before 50 Shades of Grey, there was Story of O... Shocking and dangerously sexy, this famous story of love, dominance and submission is one of the most erotic novels of all time. Read it if you dare.

5.0 out of 5 stars still incomparable 23 July 2012
Format:Paperback
If there's any justice, the success of 50 Shades is bringing the focus back on this classic.
Did it all, said it better than anyone else years ago.
Few have improved on it. Drop dead Grey and Anastasia, this is the real stuff....

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read!!! 6 July 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Loved this book, just saddened that it ended so 'unfinished' and that the reviews for the follow up of this book are all pretty negative.

4.0 out of 5 stars Compelling, sexy, dangerous and beautiful. 22 Aug 2010
By Michael
Format:Paperback
Well,... stumbled on this one a while ago and I suppose I've no choice but to call it pornography, but that sounds a bit low-brow. If there's such a thing as literary pornography, then this is where the story of O fits. You need to be open minded here - the themes of BDSM are adult in the extreme, but this story also touches the human condition. It will haunt you, it will arouse you, and and it will make you think. O will touch you! Truly a classic, and should be read by all open minded adults who are not afraid to venture over to the dark side.

5.0 out of 5 stars Original fifty shades of Gray 1 Feb 2013
By angelmary TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was the first book I read, that contained this subject matter. It changed my out look on life. I had been brought up receiving this type of treatment, but believing I was a bad person. This book made me realize that I could have made a choice to stop the treatment if I truly wanted to. Reading this book freed me, in such a way that only those that are truly able to understand O`s feelings would be able to understand.

As the Story of O unfolds it offers what, at times, can be a startling account of the BDSM world. Very unlike the pseudo-BDSM rubbish in Fifty Shades, so please be warned. With most suggestion engines now recommending both titles side by side, it is inevitable that a whole host of people who think they know or are interested in the world of BDSM,will stumble across the Story of O.

This is a full on account of a fantastical, 24/7 master/slave relationship. It is brutal and arresting in its portrayal of the intensity of the psychological aspect of such a relationship. This book is not holiday pool side reading material nor is it suitable for the family book shelf. What this book is however, is pornographic, brutal, extreme, shocking and absorbing.

1.0 out of 5 stars None 22 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Obviously a classic cult novel, this book is important to most lovers of literature, whatever their perspective. But Amazon and Kindle, despite the overwhelming feedback, have done such a clunky, complacent and useless job at delivering a decent translation that all nuance and meaning has been squeezed out. It even seems too much to ask for a simple spell check. Hang your heads in shame Amazon. Disgraceful. Charles

5.0 out of 5 stars Could not put it down 5 Sep 2007
Format:Paperback
This is a book which I had often heard of but never really come accross. Afer starting the book i found i could not put it down as it is just so entertaining. At first you think what on earth? Why is this woman allowing her lover to treat her like this? As soon as you carry on reading it soon becomes obvious just how complex this character is. As a fan of all gothic like books this is the best one by far. Sometimes the language can get a bit confusing as it is not that clear but you soon become accustomed to this and really become engaged with the story.

3.0 out of 5 stars A classic, badly translated
A classic tale.
No real reason to go deep into the subject of this novel.

In this particular version, rather badly translated.
