Product Description

As the Honourable Artemis Castor, a fledgling architect, rises early on her wedding day to make coronets of flowers for herself and her bridesmaids to save a milliner’s bill she is thankful that never again will she have to worry about money. Had Harry Tremaine owned nothing but a dingy garret and a bottle of absinthe she would have married him anyway because he is kind, honourable, charming, clever and handsome. But he is also extremely rich. The honeymoon is to be spent on a small farm in Cornwall owned by Harry’s ancient, grumpy guardian. She leaves behind, temporarily, the ugly, crumbling family pile, the amiably feckless Lord and Lady Castor, and her little sister who is in trouble at school. And she owes a great deal of money to her boss for a beautiful but dilapidated house in Whitechapel. At last, she thinks, with Harry’s moral support and limitless funds she can find a solution to all the problems that beset her. How wrong she is!

This is Victoria Clayton’s eighth novel and like the others it is a romantic comedy. For the time being it is published only as an e-book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another lovely book! 30 Dec 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
When I read Victoria Clayton's books, I end up feeling a better person somehow. And more interested in housework, which she often manages to make a compelling and fun activity - has she found Flylady.com I wonder? Although this book has less of a housework theme than most, it is partly set in Cornwall (somewhere I also love) so that makes up for it. The book is beautifully written, with engaging characters and lots of laughs. Light-hearted, romantic fiction to be sure, but much higher quality than most. One of my all-time favourite authors.

5.0 out of 5 stars I want this in bookform! 24 Dec 2011
By Mirjam
Format:Kindle Edition
I am from Holland en am a Huge Big Fan. I have red all the books a thousand times. They have seen every mood and the gave just one feeling: joy! I love chicklit, but most of these books are written horribly: no structure, no plot, lots of recepies, cheesy women and awful alfa male leading men. So a lot of dissapointment there. So I take a new thriller. Those writers can write plots, complicated charachters but they can't give you that nice 'I was sad but now happy feeling'.

And then there is Miss Clayton. She is one of a kind: Kind, intelligent, with a sharp but kind eye for human ridiculousness. There is always an excellent plot, colourfull characters and for me there is a nice by product: after reading I am always in the mood for cleaning my house. And you see the world around you with a sparkle of ridiculousness and that makes life so much more adventurous. You don't even have to leave your neighbourhood for that.

Ms Gwyneth Lewis wrote in her beautiful book: Sunbathing in the Rain: I wish there was a department in the library for people having a depression. Books like Cold Comfort Farm. I had to think of Ms Clayton. She writes books for that section. So if are you depressed begin to read Clayton.

So please release this title in bookform, it belongs there.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than up to standard 10 Feb 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Very pleased to find this available as a Kindle ebook, as I always eagerly await the latest from this author. The usual enjoyable, complicated plot, with a number of unexpected twists. Why do the publishers seem to insist on a blurb that implies that Victoria Clayton's books are simple rom-coms, when they are always SO much more though-provoking?

Loved this book as I have loved all her others, but why only an e-book this time? I'm disappointed not to have a hard copy to put on my bookshelf now I've finished it.
