Jack Higgins takes us to the sea in this wartime thriller.Up to the usual excellent standard of his other wartime novels. This one gives you the feeling of being on board the 'Deutschland' with the rest of the crew. The ending may be a little bit obvious but I would certainly recommend this book to all,its very hard to put down.

I had only previously read 'The Eagle Has Landed' by Higgins, which I found well-written but suspect in one or two historical details; this book matches it for building suspense, bringing storylines together and is altogether convincing in its evocation of World War 2 and how people coped with it, and the effect it had on their lives. I borrowed it from a library but would certainly want to buy it in due course to keep.

A Higgins Clasic 3 Jun 2009
Format:Paperback
A very good read from Jack Higgins. He brings several strands together into a climax that is very well written. Making a hero of a U-Boat Captain is something of a clever twist. The description of the storm of the title is well done and in keeping with the historical events regarding weather in the area.
