Biography

Lisa Marie Presley

Storm & Grace

With all the hoopla that has surrounded her, it’s easy to forget that Lisa Marie Presley is at heart a simple Southern girl whose earliest musical memories are of obsessively listening to 45’s in her bedroom at Graceland and of her dad catching her singing into a hairbrush in front of a mirror at the age of three.

I already purchased Lisa Marie's first two albums when they were released, so I trusted that I'd be in for a good listen with her third album, Storm & Grace. How wrong I was.

Storm & Grace isn't merely a "good" album. It is a beautiful album - very honest, haunting, enchanting and at times masterful.

This talented woman is so underrated by people, purely because they feel she made it based on her father's fame. How wrong they are. Lisa Marie is an artist so talented and visionary that she would have been releasing music with or without her famous family behind her. She certainly deserves recognition and respect in her own right: what she does is nothing short of amazing.

Songs such as "Storm and Grace" "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" "I Was Wrong" and "Close To The Edge" are all exceptional, as is the majority of the album.

I can't recommend it enough: Lisa Marie hasn't sold out to current trends, she hasn't tried to mould herself into something she is not - she is simply content to be herself, and this shines out through her music.

If you want something a little deeper than what you find in the throw-away charts nowadays, then try this album. It is moody, gets under your skin, and you really feel like you take a journey with this woman as you listen to her world unfold through song.

I give it 5 out of 5, because it deserves it.

Anyone rating it less because of her name and her family background are giving this woman a disservice: she is talented in her own right. Try it for yourself, give her time: I promise you will find it hard to be disappointed in what she delivers!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent album. 18 May 2012

After a long break, Lisa Marie Presley is back with the best album of her career. Gone are the over produced songs, in place are soulful songs with a southern sound. Though some words are hard to understand her voice is beautiful and after listening to the CD a few times the songs grow on you more and more. It's a shame she is often compared to her father, though an excellent singer in her own right, she doesn't have the vocal range of Elvis and there lies the problem. Many Elvis fans often buy her albums for curiosity sake, then slate her for not being as powerful or singing like Elvis. I'm a great Elvis fan but I look at Lisa Marie Presley, not only as his daughter, but as an artist in her own right with her own style. She obviously inherited some music talent from her father. I'm glad I bought this album and just hope she gets the praise and support she deserves.

Upon first listen to Lisa Marie's first record in 7 years (plus her debut record on a new label) what strikes you initially is how different this record is in contrast to previous albums 'To Whom It May Concern' and 'Now What'. Where those records were filled with great angry rock songs and deeply personal ballads, this new album appears to the flip side of the coin. The sound is stripped back, bluesy and soulful. Vocally, Lisa continues to use her smokey/raspy voice to good use though at times it does hark back to the early days where at times it is hard to understand exactly what she is singing unless you are reading along the with the lyrics in the sleeve booklet. Despite this one flaw, lyrically she is on the ball as she always is and I still find it incredible that she write such brilliant lyrics and melodies on her own without the aid on co-writers (as so many do these days).
After only a couple of listens it is too soon for me to pick out individual tracks as favourites, however I am finding the more upbeat songs slightly more appealing but I think this will depend on my mood at the time. Opening track 'Over Me' and bonus track 'Heartless' just straight to the front of the queue but with each listen this record becomes like an onion where you continue to peel layers off to reveal more and more. I just wish I could write a record myself one day half a brilliant.

Great album,a mix of blues and country. The single You aint seen nothing yet sounds a bit like Chris Isaak. My favourite track is So Long a great lively little number.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best album yet from Lisa Marie
This is quite a different album from Lisa Marie, and has much less of a rock feel to it than her other offerings. It has a kind of country sound to it, which I really like. Read more
