This is Mary's first album of new material in over 6 years and I'm pleased to say it has been worth the wait.
Although I've been a long time fan I have to admit that I've been little disappointed in Mary's last couple of albums (`Full Tide' & `Speaking With The Angel') which seemed to lack the consistency and sparkle of her earlier classics such as `Babes In The Wood' and `Holy Ground'.
Mary has always been a great storyteller and she really shines on this collection of mostly ballads. Her voice has matured with age and has a vulnerability that is particularly well suited to songs such as `Faith In Fate' and `Wizard Of Oz' written by her son Danny O'Reilly. These tracks along with the poignant `The Night Was Dark And Deep' are in my opinion some of Mary's best recordings.
If you haven't listened to Mary for a while or are just discovering her music for the first time, then you are in for a treat. Highly recommended.
