This book is aimed at kids who are just starting to read for themsleves but although it looks promising, it is not going to light a fire in them. The premise of each story is nice, illustrations are good and lively and the vocabulary well graded but the text simply does not live up to the pictures. I found in all three stories that there was an excess of attention to tedious and irrelevant details and not enough drive or narrative thrust or characterisation. If you only have a few hundred words to tell your story it has to be tight - every word must count. If you take away the pretty pictures, this is deeply uninspired storytelling.

I bought the book for my younger brother who learns English, and he liked it a lot.
The book really well-balanced - every page has decent amount of text and colorful illustrations. Language is quite simple (though helps to learn some pirate slang) and reading is fun.
Personally I really like the illustration style which is very good. I can recommend this book to every child.

A lovely book with some nice stories that children enjoy. The illustrations add to the experience as they allow for discussion and provide further entertainment.

Pirate stories for kids
What a superb book. Like most kids my two are mad on pirates and they have loved these stories at bed time. Well written and great cartoon pictures throughout
