This is a truly delightful book, gorgeously illustrated to capture the minds of small children (and even those of us not so small!).
As I described it in the title, it really is a Hindu version of Aesop's Fables with tales of 'underdog' monkeys outwitting the apparently much sharper crocodiles, gluttonous monks being the agents of their own despair and eavesdropping servants condemned to forever pass on the stories that they sneakily overheard from the boudoir of Lord Shiva and his good wife Parvati.
Beautifully told in a style that appeals to children aged 5 years and upwards, they instill the principles of common sense, morality, kindness and quick thinking in all that hear these tales.
A wonderful cache of Indian tradition for KS1 and KS2 (possibly even KS3) teachers, these wonderful tales will capture the imaginations of children of all ages without proselytizing the Hindu faith.
A truly captivating book, I only wish I had the larger size rather than the miniature version! A pleasure to read.
