This is Mary's first album of new material in over 6 years and I'm pleased to say it has been worth the wait.

Although I've been a long time fan I have to admit that I've been little disappointed in Mary's last couple of albums (`Full Tide' & `Speaking With The Angel') which seemed to lack the consistency and sparkle of her earlier classics such as `Babes In The Wood' and `Holy Ground'.

Mary has always been a great storyteller and she really shines on this collection of mostly ballads. Her voice has matured with age and has a vulnerability that is particularly well suited to songs such as `Faith In Fate' and `Wizard Of Oz' written by her son Danny O'Reilly. These tracks along with the poignant `The Night Was Dark And Deep' are in my opinion some of Mary's best recordings.

If you haven't listened to Mary for a while or are just discovering her music for the first time, then you are in for a treat. Highly recommended.

This is Mary Black's first studio album for six years and in large part it's been worth the wait. Please bear in mind that this review is being written after only a few listenings. Having said that, the first thing that's worth saying is that this album-or at least the extended version- features the best song and vocal from Mary for a long time. It's just a pity that those who bought the standard CD miss out on it. The song in question is 'One in a Million' which is 9 minutes long and contains a beautiful narrative of both a mundane and magical love story. If ever it was true that Mary Black inhabits a song here is a classic example. It is beautifully sung and is a complete joy. But there are other highlights too. The first four tracks are all excellent. I personally love the duet with Imelda May on 'Mountains to the Sea'. The fourth track-"Faith in Fate'-is the first of three written by Black's son Danny O'Reilly, the other two 'The Night is on Our Side' and 'Wizard of Oz' are equally excellent; all songs beautifully interpreted by Mary Black. There are lighter, and for me, less successful moments but they may grow on me. The extended version is beautifully packaged and the musicianship and production are excellent throughout. It is an album that will be loved by Mary Black's fans. I suspect it is a grower, certainly it's worth buying for 'One in a Million alone, and if it is a grower may prove to be the best Mary Black album for a long time.

After a long gap this is a great return and can be thoroughly recommended. It is a return to her best after some albums that hadn't been so special. She is one of my favourite singers.

Another lovely album from Mary Black. I wouldn't say its her best but as usual the songs creep into your soul and work a little magic and the album grows on you until it feels like an old friend. Shes a great singer.

I am Mary Black fan and have all her albums. This is worth having to complete my collection and is almost a return to the form of her early albums.
I saw her recently on tour and her voice is as great as ever.
