Emo-tastic,
This review is from: Stories And Alibis (Audio CD)
I don't know where to begin, I got the West for Wishing EP on promo in late 2002 and was rather impressed. I then saw that they were playing a gig nearby. So I gamble a fiver that it would be good, I couldn't have been more wrong! It was jaw dropping! We all know how hard it is to be truly impressed when you hardly know any of a bands material! But I was totally blown away!I went home and pre-ordered this album and waited 2 months for it to arrive, and it was sooooo completely worth the wait! Saw them again recently, and they were even better! I felt bless to have seen such an amazing band who will know doubt be a force to be reckoned with in the new future! They somehow manage to blend beautiful harmonies and screaming when it all counts. Super powerfull riffs(see playing for keeps) all the way to heart on the line rocking(see Promise) and dashboard style acoustic love(see tiger lily). This has to be a must for any fan of Thursday, Taking Back Sunday and the like. Simply put, BUY IT! You won't be dissapointed!

Emo's hidden gem,
By Daniel Williams (Swansea) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stories And Alibis (Audio CD)
I came across this after hearing one of the songs some time ago. Thinking nothing of it I bought the CD and, to be honest, I'm amazed! Matchbook Romance seem to draw from all that's good about emo currently; from harmonising, to catchy riffs to fantastic lyrics. Each song gets better than the last, culminating in "The greatest fall (of our time)" which, I guarantee, will bring a tear to your eyes. Other fantastic songs are "Your stories, my alibis" and "Tiger lily". Only "Shadows like statues" seems to let the group's effort down. If you can imagine Brand New, crossed with Thursday, but with a hint of Spitalfield's catchiness then this is the perfect album for you. Play it at parties, in your room or on the bus. Each time you hear it you'll find something new which will increase the enjoyment of this album. Thank you please.

Unreal, Amazing, Jaw dropping, Fantastic BUY IT,
By Forgive Is Forget fan (Suffolk, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews

When I was first given this album by a mate I thought little of it, assuming it was your run of the mill "emo" album. I have never been more wrong! This album is BY FAR the best album I have ever heard, everyone who gets to hear this album instantly falls in love with it. The subtle melodies will appeal to those who like the pop-ier side of this genre whilst the brutal crescendos of layers of vocals will mesmerize those who enjoy the heavier style. However, as with all great albums it's the little things that make this SUCH a phenomenal album, the over-riff here, the perfectly timed drum fill there. It's these little things that create the striking and stunning aural assault that is MATCHBOOK ROMANCE. The only negative thing I can say is that it is a tragedy that these guys aren't appreciated enough, buy this album and hopefully, one day, these guys will get the recognition they deserve.
