I'd read that some cheap memory cards use duff chips that come from the reject bin at the chip factory. As such do not perform at all well. As this was very, very cheap the first thing I did when opening it was to thoroughly check this SD card.

I found a small program on the scandisk website (that tests cards)& found that this card was 100% genuine (not a duff card), worked almost twice as fast as it's labeled (class 10 = read/write 10Mb/Sec). This card was writing at 18Mb/Sec & reading at 19Mb/Sec & each sector tested performed perfectly.

This card is amazing value. It's a fraction of the cost of a branded card & exceeds expectations on speed read/write tests. This card will work perfectly for capturing video from a camcorder (or anything else that can use SDHC cards). I'm totally happy with this SD card.

At the top end of memory there is usually a trade off between capacity, speed and price. You can't have all three, and have to be ready to concede one of them to have the other two.

The Storage Options 32Gb Class 10 card comes very close to letting you have your cake, eat it and lick the plate. The speed allows you to record video and take dSLR bursts without the card slowing you down. The capacity means you never have to worry about saving some space for later in the day. And the price, that allows you to either keep the piggy bank intact, or buy two.

On the technical side, not all class 10 cards are equal - the transfer rate of this card is 10Mb/s. You can get Sandisk cards with 20Mb/s or even 30Mb/s, that are also class 10. For Class 10, 10Mb/s is the MINIMUM transfer rate.

But in almost all applications there is no practical difference between 10Mb/s and 30Mb/s. You might notice it when transfering large amounts of data to your computer - if your computer can support 30Mb/s, which would need SDXC (aka SD 3.0) support - but in the camera or camcorder 10Mb/s is plenty. I use a Nikon D7000 and its HD video recording runs at 3.5Mb/s, so 10Mb/s is absolutely fine.

This is a genuinely great deal for a fast, reliable high capacity card.

After reading some of the bad stories about cheap SDHC cards, upon receiving the card, I set about finding programs over the internet that I could thoroughly test this SDHC card. I found two applications, one that would test the memory itself and a program that would test the read / write speed of the card. All tests have passed with flying colours with no errors in the memory all 32GB's being perfect and the speed having write performance of 19M/B per second +/- and 20M/B per second +/- for read performance. As it says in the advertisement and also clearly on the packaging it has a 5 year warranty so that also gives piece of mind. I am well pleased with this memory so far at the cheapest price I could find on the internet for all sellers at the time I purchased. Great deal, thanks Bentham Ltd.

Space, for the PC user at least, is not infinite. You can never have too much space on a hard drive or a portable drive and, until recently, certainly not on a memory card.

For now, though, 16GB is a fair amount of space to have on a Camera or Video Camera and now it seems to be far more affordable than ever before.

Which leads me on to the Storage Options 16GB card. Not having heard of the company before I was sceptical at first. After testing this out on a Fuju camera and a friends new Video Camera (a Sony handheld HD one) my fears were proved unfounded. The card was fast enough to cope with both sports images and HD video and the space afforded by the 16GB memory allowed me to take far more video than I first thought it would.

Playing the video back on the PC gave be a smooth picture (jerky pictures are often the first sign of trouble with slower read and write speeds on a card) so no problems there.

So, a big 16GB space and decent speed, plus it worked with recent cameras. What more could you ask for until the day 32GB is the norm and we all start complaining about lack of space again...

It would appear that some disparity is appearing between reviews and the reasons are not yet apparent. Given the card's price and capacity, I figured that if it didn't work for its intended application (hi-def camcorder) then it would at least live happily in my DSLR.

Down to business. I bought this card tentatively, at a time before the two most recent "low-star-rated" reviews appeared; it seemed excellent value (too good to be true kinda value, if you know what I mean). Well, when it comes to the world of memory cards, there are principally two variables, the quality of the card and that of the hardware using it and combined, these result in the observed performance.

At the time of writing, I have been using this memory card in a Panasonic TM700 camcorder; their flagship prosumer unit. It records at a mind-blowing 1080p 50 progressive frames per second (UK spec') resulting in an AVCHD stream of 28 Mbits. To my knowledge there are few other SD based cams running with this level of data throughput (ignoring the latest models at CES) and thus it offers an excellent benchmark for the performance (or lack thereof) of any SD card - they quickly reveal their worth.

I am happy to report that my 32MB card has performed flawlessly in all types of use, with 1080p fast moving scenes and the recorded footage has been checked with "MediaInfo" and are all of the same 28 Mbit overall rate. I can only report what I have experienced, as the other reviewers equally have done. My experience has been entirely positive and I have no qualms about buying another.

Outstanding value, for me.
