Why Choose RoadCam Roadview from Storage Options?

Everyday motorists see examples of at least one case of bad driving that could potentially lead to an incident on the road followed by a lengthy insurance dispute over whose fault it was. RoadCam Roadview is a simple, affordable and easy-to-use in-car camera designed to give motorists peace of mind while they drive, as it records video of the scene in front of your vehicle in real time, so you’ll have video evidence should an incident occur, saving you plenty of paper work, time and money.

RoadCam Roadview also has a range of recreational applications. Record the circuit from a day on the track that you can later review to remind you of the braking and turning points and plan how you can improve your time, capture video of sights from your favourite journey or a road trip to share with friends and family, record your ride in a luxury sports to re-live over and over.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple but effective 4 April 2012
Verified Purchase
Bought this product so I have video evidence incase some one crashes into me.

Simple to use. Take out the box, plug into your cigarette lighter and off you go.

Settings are quite simple and recorded footage during the day is perfect for evidence. Night time footage requires some adjustment which is very simple.

I have mine set on a 15 minute record cycle. After the 5 minutes it took to set up, all I do now is plug in and it starts up recording straight away.

You can playback footage immediately on the screen (with fastforward and rewind) or plug memory card into your computer. Sound is a bit dodgy but unless you want to record commentary why would you need it ?

Buy it. Insurance premiums are becoming very expensive.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's OK 6 April 2012

Arrived quickly from supplier. This camera is OK, just OK. The instructions are a bit sparse but it wasn't too difficult to work out what does what. Buyers should note that if there is not enough memory the oldest file is deleted in rotation and the best quality is only 640 x 480 (VGA). The 'On' switch light is not very bright so with the screen down it's hard to see whether it's on or not. The SD card I received was only 1Gb not 4Gb as stated and was corrupted and unusable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Road Cam 30 April 2012
By steve

Ordered the RoadCam on the Wednesday and received it the following Monday using the free delivery service; have had it now for 7 days. The camera is easy to set up, all the buttons for this are mounted on the viewer and are easily accessible. The SD card supplied is a 4 GByte, but there are no markings on it, had to plug it into my computer to confirm it was 4 GByte. I have the resolution set to VGA which seems to give a very reasonable quality of recording; have not yet had the opportunity to try it at night, I will report further once I have. The instruction manual is written in English and is acceptable as a manual. It mentions the power button, which flashes blue when charging or is illuminated when it is switched on. The light can only been seen if it is dark, so is a waste of time, hence the 4 star rating. Having said that, it is not a problem because a clicking sound can be heard when it is switched on or off. I have my camera mounted just below the rear view mirror, the suction on the mount is incredibly strong and the mounting unit is very sturdy. I have the power cable running around the top of the windscreen, down the front off side pillar and then along the plastic section below the steering wheel to the cigarette lighter; all is held in place with clips that I bought off the internet. When the ignition is turned on or off, the camera is automatically turned on or off. I have the camera set on the highest recording time ie 15 minutes, so after this a new 15 minute session will start. Once the card is full, the oldest recording is deleted, there is about a 10 second delay while this is happening; so one hopes an accident will not happen during this time. There is a facility on the menu to reformat the card, which will erase all recordings. Read more ›

4.0 out of 5 stars Dead on Arrival but I fixed it myself - read how 14 Jun 2012
Verified Purchase
The wretched thing just froze with the splash screen showing whenever I switched it on or connected it to USB or the car charger. No flashing blue light to show it was charging and could only be switched off by removing the battery. I had a brainwave and replaced the supplied SD card with a known good one and BINGO it all worked. Contacted Storage Options tech. support suggesting they send me a fresh SD card but just got the usual "send it back and we'll replace it" response. So I thought I'd do their job for them and re-formatted the supplied SD card. BINGO AGAIN ! Now works fine with the supplied SD card. If they have been shipping unformatted SD cards then I expect a few people will be getting problems so I hope this helps.

Camera itself is actually quite good and unobtrusive. Battery seems to last quite well (1hr and 30 mins and it has just dropped to two bars on the display). The menu structure and buttons take a bit of working out but once you have it set up it works pretty well. Sound is useless frankly. When stationary you get a reasonable reproduction of the radio but on the move you cannot hear anything but road noise and clipped sound from the radio. I had hoped it might pick up dictated registration numbers of idiots in the middle lane etc but not much chance of that without screaming at the top of your voice (which might help relieve some of the frustration I suppose).
Not a bad gadget I suppose and it might prove very useful one day.

4.0 out of 5 stars Recording the road ahead with no fuss 10 Jun 2012
Verified Purchase
I have been using the Roadcam for several months now and it does a pretty good job. I was looking for something that will keep a video record of what is happening but without lots of messing about. Roadcam does this. I am using the aux power supply and this means that when I switch on the ignition road cam starts to record, and when I stop it stops. It stores the video on an SD card in 15 minute long files and there is a slight pause while it finalises one file and opens the next but this is only for 5 to 10 seconds and then its off again.

A couple of issues. It is supplied with a suction mount but the thread is not the same as the unit so it jams up after approx one turn. In my case this happened to coincide with the camera facing forward but not everyone might be this lucky. I told road cam about this and just got a ' they are all like that'.

Also you can specify different resolutions for the recording up to saga 1280*1024 but the native resolution is 640*480 so I can't see the point in setting it any higher.

Finally, and I can't quite believe this but. . . my power supply has developed an obscure fault that produces FM radio interference. But only for BBC Radio 1!!
