After suffering from IBS for a number of uncomfortable years, Dr Mansfield's book was a godsend, and a fine read too. His style is quirky and anecdotal so I wanted to read it, smiling every-so-often, rather than just scope for relevant sections to help me with my specific symptoms. Dr Mansfield has a no nonsense approach and spares no blushes in parts, which is refreshing for someone who wants to get to the root of the problem and do something about it. An excellent book, which I would recommend to anyone with IBS or digestive problems, even if they are too embarrassed to admit it!

Full of useful information and advice, which if you follow you can bring an end to this awful condition.I would strongly recommend this book if you're troubled by indigestion or I.B.S.

This is the worst IBS book I've tried to read.

There is very little symptom-specific advice and some of the advice made my symptoms worse not better. The book contains a lot of waffle so I may have missed something but the general assumption seems to be that IBS = constipation.

Quote: 'Every living thing possesses a quality-body or "soul", surrounding and arranging its substance.' The author repeatedly talks about food having a soul. And if you want a 143-word, graphic description of a tear in an anus caused by constipation this is the book for you. My IBS was better without it.

I suggest instead 'I.B.S. Relief' by Dawn Burstall, T. Michael Vallis and Geoffrey K. Turnbull.
