I have just finished Stone Of Tears, the second instalment of Terry Goodkind’s gripping fantasy series, and I’ve got one word for it - EPIC!
It is now officially the second largest book that I have ever read being 1056 pages long, just twelve shorter than The Lord Of The Rings!
I thoroughly enjoyed SOT from the first page to the last, and found it very easy to get in to as it begins less than an hour after the end of WFR.
However, the story-line is much more complex in this book and sometimes a little unbelievable.
There are many brilliant twists and turns in this book. When Richard gets to the Palace of the Prophets all of his teachers seem to adore him, but at the end they all turn out to be twisted old loonies intent on destroying him. Even the people who aren’t so bad end up dying!
There is great character building in this book also. Kahlan and Adie both get much bigger parts and show their full powers as the Mother Confessor and a Sorceress. Goodkind also brings many different characters into this book although not all are likeable. There’s Warren, Pasha, Orsk and the brilliantly cute Gratch, but there’s also the Wizard Neville Ranson and Jedidiah who are both sickeningly twisted.
All in all, SOT is better than WFR! I can't believe I'm saying this but I think it has a more detailed story, more action, but they are both great books, I just can’t wait to get into Blood Of The Fold!
